Striker Nguyen Quoc Viet was added to the Vietnam national team to replace Cong Phuong.

To ensure the strength of the attack after the unfortunate absence of Cong Phuong due to injury, Coach Kim Sang-sikhas decided to call up young striker Nguyen Quoc Viet to the Vietnam national team. This is considered a reasonable solution in the context that the team needs quality replacements for the important match with Malaysia in the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

Quoc Viet is not a strange face to coach Kim Sang-sik as he was called up to the national team in the previous training session. He is also a mainstay of the U22 Vietnam team, currently training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. Growing up from the Hoang Anh Gia Lai training center, Quoc Viet played for Hoang Anh Gia Lai's youth teams before being promoted to the first team to compete in V.League 1. At the beginning of the 2024 season, he transferred to Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club in V.League 2 to have more opportunities to compete and develop professionally.

On the international stage, Quoc Viet has participated in many major tournaments such as the Southeast Asian U23 Championship, SEA Games and the Asian U20 and U23 qualifiers in the colors of the Vietnamese youth teams. He is highly appreciated for his ability to choose a position, accurate finishing and flexibility in movement, qualities that suit the current playing style of the team under coach Kim Sang-sik.
