Continue to affirm the role of the elderly in socio-economic development
(Baonghean.vn) - Continuing to affirm the role and position of the elderly in socio-economic development, security and defense protection. That was the statement of Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh - Vice President of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly at the Conference of the Provincial Association of the Elderly Executive Committee.
On the morning of January 4, the Provincial Association of the Elderly (NCT) held an expanded Executive Committee meeting to review the work in 2019 and discuss directions and tasks for 2020.

In 2019, the Provincial Association of the Elderly did a good job of building the Association, caring for and promoting the role of the elderly in the community and socio-political organizations. During the year, the Association admitted 18,522 members, bringing the total number of members in the province to 389,626.
Most of the Association levels well organized birthday and longevity celebrations for the elderly; organized 260 trips for 10,589 members to revisit old battlefields and visit historical and cultural sites.
At the same time, coordinate to remove temporary houses and repair damaged houses for 230 households with elderly people with a total amount of more than 3.3 billion VND; give gifts to 28,709 lonely elderly people with no place to rely on and in special circumstances with a total amount of more than 8.6 billion VND; visit 239,922 sick elderly people with a total amount of more than 27 billion VND; mobilize to buy health insurance cards for 5,752 members...

The whole province has 31,436 elderly people participating in social work; 3,245 elderly people own farms and businesses and 5,204 people are good at economics. Elderly people have donated 378,030m2 of land, contributed 264,470 working days, and supported more than 45 billion VND to build new rural areas. There are 22,014 elderly people participating in crime prevention, security and order, providing 1,442 important pieces of information to authorities.
In their discussions, delegates analyzed and evaluated the achievements, shortcomings, limitations and causes of the Association's work; shared good experiences in the Association's work. They pointed out difficulties and obstacles in promoting the role of the elderly, and recommended that functional departments and branches pay more attention to primary health care for the elderly...

In 2020, the Provincial Elderly Association determined the task of continuing to build a strong grassroots association, develop members, improve the capacity and effectiveness of the branches and the core role of the Movement "All people care for, support and promote the role of the elderly". Promote the emulation movement "Old age - bright example", effectively implement activities to care for the elderly, "Action Month for the Elderly" in 2020.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh - Vice President of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly acknowledged the results of the activities of the Provincial Association of the Elderly. At the same time, he noted that the Association at all levels should continue to promote political and ideological work in the Association's activities, raise awareness of the aging population; and effectively implement the "Action Month for the Elderly".

On this occasion, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly presented the Emulation Flag to the Nghe An Association of the Elderly and awarded Certificates of Merit to 51 groups and 48 individuals; the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 groups and 11 individuals with outstanding achievements in 2019. At the same time, launched the Emulation Movement "Old Age - Bright Example" in 2020.
