On the morning of July 11, the National Traffic Safety Committee held a national online conference to review the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in the first 6 months of the year and the direction and tasks for the third quarter of 2023. 4,970 traffic accidents occurred in 6 months
With the drastic direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, along with the active participation of ministries, branches and localities, the traffic safety situation in the first 6 months of 2023 was basically ensured. Traffic accidents continued to be controlled and decreased significantly in all 3 criteria compared to the same period in 2022. Nationwide, 4,970 traffic accidents occurred, killing 2,865 people and injuring 3,471 people. Compared to the same period in 2022, the number of cases decreased by 762 cases (-13.29%), 484 deaths (-14.45%), and 214 injuries (-5.81%).
In particular, the number of traffic accidents caused by drivers violating alcohol concentration regulations during peak periods has decreased significantly compared to previous years. In addition, the number of traffic jams during peak periods has decreased compared to the same period in 2022 after the implementation of non-stop toll collection nationwide. Violations of overloading vehicles and vehicle wall extensions in localities have been fundamentally handled.

In Nghe An province, in the first 6 months of 2023, there were 94 traffic accidents, killing 61 people and injuring 67 people. Compared to the same period in 2022, there were 3 fewer accidents (3.09%), 6 fewer deaths (8.9%), and 5 more injuries (8%).
Traffic police nationwide inspected and handled 1,685,517 cases of traffic safety violations, fined VND 3,251 billion 819 million, revoked 328,213 driving licenses, certificates, and professional certificates; and temporarily detained 528,461 vehicles of all kinds. Compared to the same period in 2022, the number of violations handled increased by 306,203 cases (+22.2%), and the fines increased by VND 1,616 billion 945 million (+98.9%). Inspectors of the Departments of Transport conducted 38,637 inspections and checks; handled 24,427 administrative violations with fines totaling over VND 149 billion; detained 113 cars; suspended the operation of 33 wharves and 102 inland waterway vehicles; supervised 448 car driving tests and 350 motorcycle driving tests.
