The first direct flight from the North Korean capital Pyongyang to the eastern Chinese city of Jinan officially opened on May 31.
AirKoryo Flight JS561 landed at Jinan International Airport at 4:40 p.m. on May 31. The flight crew consisted of 10 people, wearing eye-catching navy blue uniforms.
The uniforms give AirKoryo's female flight attendants a more elegant and modern look than before. The change in uniforms is part of North Korea's efforts to improve air service to boost tourism, Yonhap said.
In July 2012, leader Kim Jong Un ordered AirKoryo to change the flight attendants' uniforms "to meet the requirements of the new century" as well as improve the quality of in-flight meals.
Air Koryo ditched its outdated red uniforms in 2013 and changed meals from hamburgers to gimbap or seaweed rice rolls.
