On the afternoon of November 15, in an online discussion on the roadmap for changing the form of household registration book management in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Cong Khanh - Director of the Department of Civil Status, Nationality and Authentication (Ministry of Justice) said that applying information technology to the management of this field will help eliminate cumbersome and troublesome procedures for citizens.

According to Mr. Khanh, when the national population database is completed, all people will have an identification code and will not need to present their household registration book when handling related matters.

"Just by eliminating the need for a paper copy of the household registration book when handling administrative procedures, we will save 450 billion VND a year," said Mr. Khanh.

The leader of the Civil Status Department also said that simplifying citizen papers not only saves two or three thousand dong for each type of abolished document, but also transportation and travel expenses... "These costs are much higher," Mr. Khanh emphasized and added that when the national population database is completed, citizens only need to sit at home, submit a request for civil status registration and receive results online.

In addition, completing population data also helps to register children's births very quickly, only taking one minute to complete because all information is entered by computer.

According to Resolution 112 just issued, the Government approved the plan of the Ministry of Public Security on eliminating procedures on household registration books and identity cards in population management to unify management by personal identification codes.

In the group of permanent residence registration procedures, the form of population management by permanent residence registration using "household registration book" will be abolished and replaced by the form of updating information on the National Population Database.

Along with the abolition of household registration books and identity cards, procedures related to immigration, vehicle registration, registration of conditional business lines, etc. will also not require people to present these two types of documents.
