Revealing the reason why Syria's air defense system is 'powerless' against US missiles
With such a large number of cruise missiles, the air defenses that Russia and Syria possess in the area cannot protect the Shayrat base.
According to Sputnik news agency, on April 7, the US fired 59 Tomahawk missiles, worth a total of about 90 million USD, at the Shayrat airbase in Syria.
Responding to Sputnik, Russian military expert Vasily Kashin explained why air defense systems failed to intercept US missiles.

According to Mr. Kashin, with such a large number of cruise missiles, the air defense means that Russia and Syria possess in the area cannot protect the Shayrat base.
The distance from the Russian S-300VM and S-400 air defense missile systems at the two bases in Tartus and Hmeymim to the Shayrat base is quite large, nearly 100km. Meanwhile, the range of low-flying cruise missiles is limited to a few dozen kilometers.
In addition, the capabilities of Russian fighter jets in Syria are not enough to intercept such a large-scale attack, while Syria's air defense missile force is weak.
Expert Kashin said that the Americans knew they could use cruise missiles to attack Shayrat base at any time without anything being able to stop them.
According to Russian experts, this is a way for US President Donald Trump to demonstrate his toughness and determination before Chinese leaders./.
