Revealing secret US missile that 'cuts everything in its path'
Since 2017, the Pentagon and CIA have used secret missiles in operations in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Somalia. The missiles do not explode, but hit potential victims with blades that “cut everything in their path,” the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed current and former US officials.

The weapon, the development and use of which are kept secret, is a modified version of the Hellfire missile, equipped with a warhead with a dummy device. As the newspaper notes, the R9X missile does not explode, but falls on potential victims, on the roofs of cars and buildings in large quantities. The weapon is also equipped with special devices, which are six long blades, which are launched a few seconds before hitting the target, "cutting everything in its path."
The US military rarely uses this missile, only under certain conditions, the newspaper said. That is when the location of one of the terrorist group's leaders is precisely established, but the use of other weapons would cause many civilian casualties. In total, according to sources, this missile has been used about five times, in operations in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Somalia.
The Americans have been developing this weapon since 2011, the Wall Street Journal reported. The R9X rocket was created under former US President Barack Obama to avoid civilian casualties in airstrikes. As the newspaper noted, the US military's use of a missile with similar characteristics was considered "plan B" to eliminate "terrorist number one" Osama bin Laden in 2011.
