Woman reports theft to police after spending nearly 300 million VND

When her biological mother gave her 300 million VND to build a new house, because she wanted to keep the money, Ms. Chi reported a false theft, using most of the money to buy gold and for daily expenses.

On October 8, Chau Thanh District Police (An Giang Province) said that the Chairman of Vinh Hanh Commune People's Committee (Chau Thanh District) had just signed a decisionadministrative sanctionsThe amount of 2.5 million VND for Ms. Truong Thi My Chi (44 years old, residing in Vinh Hanh commune) for the act of "Reporting false and untrue information to competent agencies and organizations".

Previously, at around 9:30 a.m. on September 29, Ms. Chi and her son went to the commune police station to report that a thief had broken into their house and stolen 300 million VND in money from the cabinet.

Immediately upon receiving the report, Chau Thanh District Police directed the Investigation Police Team to quickly coordinate with Vinh Hanh Commune Police to investigate and verify the incident.

Through the examination of the scene, investigation and verification, the police determined that there was no theft and invited Ms. Chi to the headquarters for questioning. There, Ms. Chi admitted that the 300 million VND was not stolen as reported.

Explaining the amount, the woman said she had bought gold and spent it daily, leaving her with only 64 million in cash. When her biological mother said she was taking the money to build a new house, wanting to keep the money, Ms. Chi falsely reported that it was stolen.
