This 12th conference mentioned three relatively new concepts: the fourth industrial revolution, smart cities and smart lighting. According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Tien, Chairman of the Vietnam Lighting Association, the name of the fourth industrial revolution or I4.0 is a term to describe a world in which machines interact and communicate intelligently with the physical environment.

Meanwhile, smart city refers to the urban development vision to manage the city's resources by intelligently integrating information and communication technology and internet solutions. Smart cities operate through the use of technology to positively impact the community such as improving the quality of urban services.

To have a smart city, scientists say, local governments must find solutions to common challenges, from providing electricity, water, housing, streets and transportation, to meeting the needs of different communities. Specifically, it must integrate: infrastructure and ICT; creative economy and knowledge society; sustainable development; human infrastructure; skills development. A smart city is a city that uses energy efficiently. Because cities currently consume about 75% of the world's energy.

Scientists also believe that lighting is an integral part of urban infrastructure. It is necessary to resolve the conflict between the need for energy savings and lighting quality. Good lighting benefits people just like good urban transport. Cities need to consider lighting strategies as part of the overall urban development strategy. Make decisions based on the total cost of ownership. Smart lighting allows flexible control as well as adaptation to different environmental conditions, and is connected to the internet and can be remotely controlled in terms of time and lighting intensity.

This conference also organized an exhibition to promote products of a number of domestic and international manufacturers of lighting systems.
