Searching for victims of a cyber fraud ring that swindled over 500 billion VND.
Through investigation, the police determined that the fraudsters used an app called "Love," also known as the "2.1" app, to steal property. They also purchased links leading to a website called "Casino Bay Sands" to facilitate their fraudulent activities.
On the afternoon of February 17th, the Criminal Investigation Agency of Tay Ninh Provincial Police announced that they are searching for victims of a criminal gang that defrauded over 500 billion VND through cybercrime in Cambodia.
Previously, the police arrested 24 individuals for investigation into fraudulent activities. These individuals are among 177 Vietnamese citizens involved in online fraud and property theft, who were recently repatriated to Vietnam by Cambodian authorities on February 6th.
Through investigation, the police determined that the fraudsters used a "Love" app, also known as the "2.1" app, to steal money. They also purchased links leading to a website called "Casino Bay Sands" to facilitate the scam. The fraudulent company, managed by Chinese nationals, was tightly organized, forming multiple groups with specific roles and responsibilities assigned to each department and member.
According to the assigned script, Vietnamese employees were tasked with "luring customers" (enticing them to place bets or investments); "killing customers" (closing accounts and erasing evidence when customers no longer have funds)... The victims were mainly Vietnamese. Working with 24 suspects, investigators initially determined that 5 out of 20 accounts used for fraud contained over 500 billion VND; identified 3 "employees" involved in the fraud who embezzled a total of nearly 6 billion VND; and 6 victims reported being defrauded of over 35 billion VND.
Currently, the Criminal Police Department of Tay Ninh Provincial Police is continuing to coordinate with the Criminal Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) and Cambodian authorities to investigate and apprehend the suspects involved for prosecution according to the law.
