(Baonghean.vn)- One day after Lo Tuan Truong died (October 20, 2015), a working group from the Department of Health went to Co Huong village, Quang Phong commune, Que Phong district to investigate the cause.

The working group of the Department of Health includes members who are doctors of the Medical Professional Department (Department of Health); Provincial Preventive Medicine Center; Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.

Regarding the serious complications after vaccination, through verifying information from Lo Tuan Truong's family, at around 9:00 a.m. on October 20, 2015, after registration, the child was taken to the vaccination room of the Commune Health Station.

Here, the child was given 2 drops of OPV vaccine and injected with Quinvaxem vaccine. About 3-5 minutes after the injection, the child cried out, had purple lips, blue skin and refused to breastfeed. The child's family then called the Station Chief to check and give emergency injections but to no avail. After about 1 hour, the child died.

Verification at Quang Phong Commune Health Station revealed similar results regarding the post-vaccination complications of Lo Tuan Truong; the station's doctors also said that after detecting the child's symptoms, they treated him according to the anaphylactic shock protocol but it was ineffective.

Checking the obstetric history, when pregnant, Lo Tuan Truong's mother (Ms. Sam Thi Que) was completely healthy; she was 38 weeks pregnant and gave birth at home with the midwife in the village. Previously, Truong had been vaccinated with BCG, Quinvaxem vaccine 1st dose and OPV 1st dose. In these vaccinations, he was completely normal. Regarding the family history, no one had any reaction or allergy to the vaccine; before vaccination, Lo Tuan Truong ate, chewed and breastfed normally; did not fall.

At the same time as Lo Tuan Truong, 28 other children were vaccinated at the commune health station (also vaccinated with Quinvaxem vaccine), and these children's health was completely normal after vaccination.

From the results of the investigation and verification, the inspection team of the Department of Health determined: The vaccine administered at the Quang Phong Commune Health Station is an expanded immunization vaccine provided under the expanded immunization system; the vaccine is preserved and transported according to regulations; the vaccination process ensures safety. Therefore, the initial assessment of the cause of death after vaccination is: The cause of death after vaccination is unknown, anaphylactic shock has not been ruled out. According to the inspection team, with the verification results, the team will recommend that the Department of Health's Professional Advisory Council for Incident Assessment soon hold a meeting to determine the cause.

As reported by Nghe An Newspaper on October 20, Lo Tuan Truong was born on July 4, 2015; the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lo Van Muoi and Sam Thi Que, residing in Co Huong village, Quang Phong commune. After receiving the 5-in-1 vaccine on the morning of October 20, 2015, at around 10:00 a.m. the same day, he died.
