Previously, more than 300 people and vehicles were mobilized to participate in the rescue and restoration of Highway 71 to enter Sub-region 67 and Rao Trang 3, Rao Trang 4.
Rescuers have searched for and brought 19 victims to Hue City for health checks. In addition, the body of a worker at Rao Trang 3 Hydropower Plant was taken to Binh Dien General Hospital for identification.
According to information from the forward command post located in Phong Xuan commune, today the units will deploy a team of sniffer dogs near Rao Trang.
"The units have mobilized nearly 1,000 people and 189 vehicles of various types, along with 3 search and rescue dogs. However, so far they have not been able to reach the scene," Zing's source said.
Mr. Phan Thien Dinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien - Hue province, said that at 9:00 a.m. this morning, the engineering force followed Highway 71 to approach the Rao Trang 4 hydropower plant. If they can reach this location, the army will easily pass through the Rao Trang 3 area to search for victims.
"Yesterday, the forces went to sub-region 67 via road 71. From here, the soldiers will continue to Rao Trang 3. If all goes well, the troops will arrive at the scene tonight," Mr. Dinh informed.
However, according to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien - Hue province, if the authorities cannot reach the scene today, the search will be more difficult due to the storm.
"Compared to the current landslide situation, the Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant is much more terrible. Half of the large mountain collapsed. Yesterday, we and the police force traveled by river to reach Rao Trang 3," said Mr. Dinh.
According to the Vice Chairman of Thua Thien - Hue, during the search, the authorities used flycams to fly over the mountain slopes to observe in the hope of discovering clues to find the victims.
"The team used flycam but did not detect anyone. The next option could be to use thermal imaging technology to find people," the Vice Chairman of Thua Thien - Hue shared.
In the direction of water rescue, hundreds of officers and soldiers set out very early. However, according to information from the forward command post, this morning in Thua Thien - Hue there was heavy rain, so the water flowed rapidly on the rivers and streams, making it difficult to access the scene.
At Phu Bai airport, two flight crews of Division 372 were ready very early, but the weather was not favorable so the two helicopters could not take off as planned.
