Witnesses said the white van hit a group of about six people. The victims were “lying all over the sidewalk,” one witness told the AP.

Police are also investigating a stabbing at Borough Market and another attack in Vauxhall, just two miles southwest of London Bridge.

London police said they were looking for at least three suspects in connection with the incidents, the BBC reported. Authorities have closed access to London Bridge.

In a photograph taken at the scene, one of the suspects is seen lying on the ground outside the Wheatsheaf pub in Borough Market after being shot by police. He has several box-shaped objects taped to his body.

A witness at Borough Market said the attacker, dressed in a red shirt and armed with a 25cm knife, stabbed a man three times. "He was stabbed in cold blood and immediately collapsed to the ground," the witness said.

Two people were stabbed at a restaurant in Borough Market, according to another witness. The attacker stabbed a waitress in the neck and a man in the back before fleeing the restaurant. He was carrying a “large knife.” The conditions of the victims are unknown, CNN reported.

Video from Borough Market shows armed police storming nearby bars, ordering people to lie on the floor. Many passersby ran away from the bridge, clutching their heads.

Chaotic scene after the car crash

Police on social media urged people to stay away from the three locations. British Prime Minister Theresa May said the incidents were being treated as "potential terrorist acts".

Police have confirmed the attacks at Borough Market and London Bridge were linked acts of terrorism. The incident at Vauxhall is unrelated.

The US Department of Homeland Security issued a statement saying it was "monitoring" the situation in the UK.

Holly Jones, a BBC reporter who was on the bridge at the time of the incident, described the car travelling at very high speed.

"The car swerved around me and then hit about five or six people. It hit two people right in front of me and three people behind me," Jones said.

This is the third attack in Britain in less than three months. A similar incident occurred in April when Khalid Masood ploughed a rental car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge and then stabbed a police officer to death. The attack left six people dead, including the attacker. Last month, a suicide bomber attacked a concert at Manchester Arena, killing 22 people.
