1. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong officially visits Indonesia and Myanmar

Indonesian President Joko Widodo and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong review the honor guard at the welcoming ceremony.

At the invitation of President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong paid an official visit to the Republic of Indonesia from August 22-24.

The visit aims to further deepen the strategic partnership, enhance political trust, consolidate friendship, promote substantive cooperation, and create a new step of development in the relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia.

Following that, at the invitation of President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Htin Kyaw, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong paid a state visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar from August 24 to 26. The visit aimed to define the framework of the relationship, representing a new milestone, new height, and new momentum for the bilateral relationship in all areas.

2. The Politburo issues regulations on title standards and criteria for evaluating cadres.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has just signed and issued Regulation No. 89-QD/TW and Regulation No. 90-QD/TW on title standards and evaluation criteria for cadres under the management of the Central Executive Committee, Politburo, and Secretariat (Regulation 90).

On behalf of the Politburo, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has just signed and issued Regulation No. 89-QD/TW on the framework of standards for positions and orientations for the framework of criteria for evaluating leaders and managers at all levels and Regulation No. 90-QD/TW on standards for positions and criteria for evaluating officials under the management of the Central Executive Committee, Politburo, and Secretariat (Regulation 90).

This is also the first time the Politburo has issued very specific regulations on title standards and evaluation criteria for senior officials of the Party and State. Regulation 90 clearly states the evaluation criteria for leaders and managers under the management of the Central Executive Committee, Politburo, and Secretariat.

In Regulation No. 89 - QD/TW, the Politburo stipulates the framework of title standards, orientation of the framework of criteria for evaluating leaders and managers at all levels; classification criteria, authority, methods, processes and time limits for evaluating leaders and managers at all levels.

3. Prime Minister of the Republic of Türkiye paid an official visit to Vietnam

4. Government holds a special meeting on law making

These are the draft Law on Competition (amended); the draft Law on amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Environmental Protection Tax; the draft Law on Special Administrative-Economic Units;

Report on the proposal to develop the draft Law on Securities (amended); report on the proposal to develop a Decree regulating the protection of the transportation of special State goods; report on the proposal to develop a Decree regulating the management and organization of festivals.

Report summarizing the results of the review and proposals of ministries, agencies and opinions on the proposal to develop draft laws to amend and supplement laws related to land, construction, housing, investment, business and planning; report on the review and recommendations to amend and supplement the provisions of the Law on Public Investment assigned in Resolution 61/NQ-CP of the Government; summary report on the results of the review of investment and business conditions of VCCI and the Central Institute for Economic Management.

5. Prime Minister attends the release ceremony of a special stamp set about General Vo Nguyen Giap

On the morning of August 24, in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province, a special issuance ceremony of the postage stamp set "General Vo Nguyen Giap (1911-2013)" took place, organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the People's Committee of Quang Binh Province.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended, signed and stamped the cover of the special issue of the stamp set. Also present were leaders of several ministries, branches, and representatives of General Vo Nguyen Giap's family.

The stamp set includes a stamp sample and a stamp block designed by an artist of Vietnam Post Corporation, depicting a portrait of General Vo Nguyen Giap with a friendly, close and simple smile in a military uniform of the 70s.

6. Conduct disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Nguyen Phong Quang

Mr. Nguyen Phong Quang, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Secretary of the Party Committee, former Deputy Head of the Standing Committee, Head of the Standing Agency of the TNB Steering Committee (2011-2016 period), must bear primary responsibility for the violations and shortcomings of the Party Committee and the Standing Agency of the TNB Steering Committee in the 2011-2016 period.

7. Trial of former leader of Pharma Pharmaceutical Company for importing fake cancer drugs

On August 21, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court opened the first-instance trial of the case of drug smuggling and counterfeiting of seals and documents of agencies and organizations that occurred at Vietnam Pharma Joint Stock Company (CPVN).

In connection with the case, 9 defendants were brought to trial for the crimes of "Smuggling" and "Forgery of seals and documents of agencies and organizations", including Nguyen Minh Hung (former Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of CPVN Pharma Company), and Vo Manh Cuong (Director of H&C International Trading and Shipping Company).

After 5 days of trial and deliberation, on the morning of August 25, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court sentenced the defendants. Accordingly, the panel sentenced Nguyen Minh Hung (former Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of VN Pharma Joint Stock Company) and Vo Manh Cuong (Director of H&C International Maritime Trading Company Limited) to 12 years in prison for smuggling.

8. Ministry of Industry and Trade arranges and rearranges personnel

On August 22, the Ministry of Industry and Trade officially announced the arrangement and rearrangement of personnel of 30 departments, offices and institutes under the ministry after Decree No. 98/2017/ND-CP dated August 18, 2017 of the Government regulating the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, replacing the old decree.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has merged or separated a number of affiliated departments or divisions, streamlining from 35 units to 30 units.

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh has signed a series of decisions assigning new heads or leaders of departments and divisions and signed documents to send to affiliated units to temporarily assign urgent tasks, ensuring no interruption in the work of the units and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
