1. The 8th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front

The Prime Minister talked with delegates attending the Conference.

On the morning of January 5, in Ho Chi Minh City, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and spoke at the 8th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized the need to implement a Government of action, integrity, development creation, serving the people, creating trust and excitement for people to contribute to socio-economic development.

With the positive socio-economic achievements of 2017, there were great contributions from the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations, contributing significantly to the successful implementation of political tasks, promoting socio-economic development of the whole country and localities.

The Prime Minister assessed that the Vietnam Fatherland Front has done a good job of gathering people from all walks of life, consolidating and promoting the strength of the great national unity bloc. Listening to and gathering people's recommendations and aspirations to reflect to the Party, the State, Party committees at all levels, and the government, especially on promoting democracy, developing the economy, culture, and caring for people's lives, to implement the motto of building a State of the people, by the people, and for the people.

2. The Politburo and the Secretariat decide on the positions.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has just signed and issued Regulation 105 of the Politburo on decentralization of cadre management and appointment and introduction of candidates, replacing previous related regulations.

According to this regulation, the Politburo and the Secretariat will decide on the evaluation, arrangement, nomination and nomination of candidates; planning, training and fostering; transfer, rotation, appointment, dismissal, resignation from office, suspension from office; rewards, discipline; retirement and implementation of policies for many specific positions of cadres.

The positions decided by the Politburo include: Politburo member, Secretariat, Central Executive Committee; Vice President, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister...

The positions decided by the Secretariat include: Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Inspection Committee; assistant to the General Secretary, President, Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Assembly and members of the Politburo, Secretaries of the Party Central Committee...

3. Anti-corruption journalism awards ceremony

On the evening of January 2, in Hanoi, the National Press Awards Ceremony "Press with the work of fighting against corruption and waste" (first time) took place, organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in coordination with the Vietnam Journalists Association. President Tran Dai Quang attended and delivered a speech.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Tran Dai Quang commended and congratulated the authors whose works won the prize. At the same time, he emphasized that preventing and combating corruption and waste is both an urgent and long-term task for the entire Party, people and army.

This is a difficult and complicated task, requiring high political determination, resolute, persistent, continuous and effective struggle from the Central to the grassroots level. Party committees, cadres and party members, first of all high-ranking leaders, must be truly pioneers and exemplary; using the combined strength of the Party organization, the State apparatus, the Fatherland Front, unions, people and mass media in the fight against corruption.

With the enthusiastic and dedicated participation of journalists and press agencies, the Organizing Committee received 1,126 press works in various forms: print, electronic, radio and television.

4. Police arrested defendant Phan Van Anh Vu

The Ministry of Public Security officially announced that on January 4, 2018, the Ministry of Public Security's Security Investigation Agency received and arrested the suspect Phan Van Anh Vu and conducted an investigation according to the provisions of law.

Phan Van Anh Vu, born in 1975; residing at: No. 82, Tran Quoc Toan, Hai Chau District, Da Nang City, violated Vietnamese law and fled from his place of residence. On December 21, 2017, the Ministry of Public Security's Security Investigation Agency issued a wanted notice for Phan Van Anh Vu; when fleeing, Phan Van Anh Vu violated Singapore's Immigration Law and was deported.

On January 4, 2018, the Ministry of Public Security's Security Investigation Agency received and arrested suspect Phan Van Anh Vu and conducted an investigation according to the provisions of law.

5. "Hot" security and order in the first days of 2018

- Tragic accident, car hits 5 road workers, killing them

At around 3:00 p.m. on January 2, a particularly serious traffic accident occurred on the dual carriageway of Ha Giang City, in Me Thuong village, Phuong Thien commune, killing 5 workers.

Hyundai Grand i10 car, license plate number 23A-046.54, driven by Luong Cong Hieu (born in 1989, permanent resident of Ngoc Linh commune, Vi Xuyen district, Ha Giang) from Thanh Thuy International border gate towards Ha Giang bus station.

Due to speeding, when reaching the dual carriageway in Me Thuong village, the car veered to the left side of the road and crashed head-on into 5 workers who were constructing the dual carriageway. The accident killed two people on the spot, and 3 others were seriously injured and were taken to Ha Giang General Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite intensive care, all 3 workers died at the hospital due to severe multiple injuries.

- Huge explosion at scrap warehouse in Bac Ninh, 2 children killed and many houses flattened

The explosion occurred at around 4:10 a.m. on January 3 at a scrap warehouse in Quan Do village, Van Mon commune, Yen Phong district (Bac Ninh), the initial cause was due to the processing of explosives. The initial cause of the explosion was determined to be that people bought explosives to take home to process scrap, leading to the explosion.

On the evening of January 3, the Investigation Security Agency, Bac Ninh Provincial Police initiated a case, prosecuted the accused and issued an order to temporarily detain Mr. Nguyen Van Tien (54 years old, in Quan Do village, Van Mon, Yen Phong district, currently residing in Pho Moi, Dinh Bang, Tu Son town), the owner of the scrap facility to investigate the act of illegally storing and trading military weapons.

At the police station, Mr. Nguyen Van Tien confessed that since December 2016, he had purchased about 7 tons of old 12.7mm and 14.5mm bullets to dismantle as scrap.
