1- Sri Lankan Prime Minister and his wife pay official visit to Vietnam

On April 16, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and his wife paid an official visit to Vietnam from April 16 to 19 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

This official visit to Vietnam by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and his wife aims to promote cooperation areas of interest to Sri Lanka such as trade, investment, telecommunications, aquaculture and seafood processing, machinery manufacturing, construction materials, etc. During the visit, the two sides will also discuss international and regional issues of mutual concern.

2. Opening of the 9th Session of the National Assembly Standing Committee

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan delivered the opening speech at the 9th session of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

On the morning of April 17, the National Assembly Standing Committee opened its 9th session under the chair of Politburo member and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

At this session, the National Assembly Standing Committee gave opinions on the acceptance and revision of 6 draft laws, including: Law on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, Law on management and use of state assets (amended), Law on State compensation liability (amended), Law on amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Penal Code No. 100/2015/QH13, Law on management and use of weapons, explosives and supporting tools and Law on planning.

These are 6 Draft Laws that the National Assembly has commented on for the first time at the 2nd Session. During the process of receiving, explaining, and revising, the National Assembly Standing Committee will continue to comment before sending them to the National Assembly Delegations for comments and submitting them to the National Assembly at the upcoming 3rd Session.

3. Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh visits the US

At the invitation of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh paid an official visit to the United States from April 20-21.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh affirmed that Vietnam values ​​and wishes to strengthen the friendship, cooperation and comprehensive partnership with the US on the basis of respecting each other's political institutions and meeting the interests of the people of the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated the Vietnamese leaders' invitation to President Donald Trump to attend the APEC Summit and dialogue activities with businesses in Da Nang in November 2017. The Deputy Prime Minister also invited Secretary of State Tillerson to visit Vietnam soon.

US Vice President Mike Pence confirmed that President Trump will visit Vietnam to attend the APEC conference and the Philippines to attend the ASEAN summit this November.

4. Dismiss Mr. Vo Kim Cu and warn former Minister Nguyen Minh Quang

On April 18 and 21, the Secretariat met under the chairmanship of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to review the report of the Central Inspection Commission proposing disciplinary action against the Party Executive Committee of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and a number of officials under the Secretariat's management related to environmental incidents in four central provinces.

Pursuant to the Politburo's regulations on disciplinary action against Party organizations and Party members who violate the law, the Secretariat unanimously voted 100% by secret ballot to issue a warning to the Party Executive Committee of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for the 2011-2016 term; issue a warning to Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang; and remove Mr. Bui Cach Tuyen and Nguyen Thai Lai from their positions as members of the Party Executive Committee of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for the 2011-2016 term.

The Secretariat also agreed to remove Mr. Vo Kim Cu from the position of Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee for the 2005-2010 and 2010-2015 terms (including removal from the positions of Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee according to regulations).

The Secretariat requested the Government Party Committee to direct the implementation of corresponding administrative discipline according to regulations against the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang, Mr. Bui Cach Tuyen, Mr. Nguyen Thai Lai and Mr. Vo Kim Cu.

5. Riots in Dong Tam, My Duc (Hanoi)

The riot occurred in Dong Tam commune, My Duc district, Hanoi. The cause was the city government's forced land clearance to serve the construction project of Mieu Mon airport - a national security and defense project.

However, when carrying out the enforcement, they encountered fierce resistance from the people, in which people used bricks, stones and sticks to attack the law enforcement force. Not only that, the crowd also arrested a number of officers in the clearance force.

On the morning of April 22, the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee had a dialogue with the people of Dong Tam commune and committed to handling the matter fairly..

6. 3-storey house collapsed, 1 person died

The three-story house was reduced to rubble.

The incident occurred at around 8:45 a.m. on April 20, at the 3-story house of Mr. Phan Van Hung at 296 Tran Hung Dao Street, Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh).

The incident happened so suddenly that Mr. Hung's wife was on the ground floor so she ran out to the street in time to escape, while Mr. Phan Van Thu, 84 years old, Mr. Phan Van Hung's father, who was on the 3rd floor, was buried in the rubble.

Upon receiving the news, the Fire Police and Search and Rescue force of Binh Dinh province mobilized 2 fire trucks and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene, quickly deploying rescue work.

7. Recognize Sam Son as a city of Thanh Hoa province

According to the Government's Proposal, Sam Son City was established in Thanh Hoa province on the basis of the entire nearly 45 km²natural area, more than 150,000 people and 11 commune-level administrative units of Sam Son town.

After establishing 4 wards and Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province kept the same number of administrative units at district level (27 units) and commune level (635 units) but had 2 cities: Thanh Hoa city and Sam Son city.

8. Artist Thanh Sang - famous cai luong singer passed away
