1.Closing of the 6th Central Conference

On the morning of October 11, after 7 days of urgent, serious, democratic and responsible work, completing all the contents of the proposed program, the 6th Central Conference (12th term) held its closing session.

In his closing speech, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong outlined the main results of this Conference. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said that the 6th Central Conference gave opinions on the socio-economic situation in 2017-2018, on the work of protecting, caring for and improving people's health, on population work in the new situation, and on the reform of public service units.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong suggested that the Central Committee should continue to implement more seriously and systematically the Resolution of the 12th National Congress, the Resolutions of the 12th Central Committee, and especially the resolutions and conclusions of this conference to promote the results and achievements that have been achieved, overcome the remaining limitations and weaknesses, and successfully complete the immediate goals and tasks set for 2017-2018 and the following years.

2. National Assembly Chairman leaves for IPU-137 and official visit to Kazakhstan

On the morning of October 14, a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly led by Politburo member and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan left Hanoi to attend the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-137) and related conferences in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation from October 14-15, 2017, and pay an official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan from October 16-18, 2017.

The Vietnamese National Assembly delegation attending the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly affirmed Vietnam's proactive and active participation in multilateral parliamentary diplomacy activities; continued to promote the role and position of the Vietnamese National Assembly at the Inter-Parliamentary Union forum, thereby contributing to promoting the State's common diplomatic efforts for national interests, in harmony with regional interests.

After attending IPU-137, the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly led by Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan will officially visit the Republic of Kazakhstan. This is the first time the Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly has officially visited the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The visit aims to continue to consolidate and develop the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Kazakhstan; promote relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and political parties in the Kazakh Parliament, especially the Nur Otan Party and the Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan.

3.The Politburo issued regulations on cadre rotation.

On October 7, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong signed and issued Regulation No. 98-QD/TW of the Politburo on cadre rotation.

This is the first regulation of the Politburo on cadre rotation, concretizing Resolution No. 3 of the Central Committee (VIII Session) on "Cadre Strategy in the period of promoting industrialization and modernization of the country" and Resolution No. 11 of the Politburo (IX Session) on the rotation of leaders and managers.

The regulation clearly states: Combine rotation with reasonable mobilization and arrangement of cadres in the entire political system; increase cadres for difficult areas in need, overcome the situation of surplus in some places, shortage in others, and locality and closedness in cadre work; continue to implement the policy of rotating cadres in close combination with the arrangement of a number of key leadership positions at the provincial and district levels who are not local people and cadres who do not hold positions for more than two consecutive terms.

4. 15th session of the National Assembly Standing Committee

On the afternoon of October 11, in Hanoi, under the chairmanship of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, the National Assembly Standing Committee opened its 15th session.

In her opening speech, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that the content of this session will complete preparations for the fourth session of the 14th National Assembly and consider a number of important contents under the authority of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

At this 15th session, the National Assembly Standing Committee gave its opinions on the report assessing the results of the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and the state budget in 2017; the socio-economic development plan, the state budget estimate and the central budget allocation plan in 2018; gave its opinions on the reports to be presented to the National Assembly, including: Synthesis of opinions and recommendations of voters and people sent to the fourth session of the National Assembly; supervision of the settlement of voters' recommendations sent to the third session of the National Assembly; Results of citizen reception, receipt and handling of citizens' petitions and letters and results of supervision of the settlement of citizens' complaints and denunciations sent to the National Assembly in 2017.

5. Proposal for life imprisonment for former National Assembly Delegate Thu Nga

On the morning of October 9, the trial of defendant Chau Thi Thu Nga - former National Assembly delegate, General Director of Housing Group Real Estate Investment and Construction Corporation and accomplices for fraud and property appropriation entered the debate phase.

After expressing his opinion on the case, the representative of the Hanoi People's Procuracy, who held the right to prosecute at the trial, requested the panel of judges to sentence defendant Thu Nga to life in prison.

According to the Procuracy, defendant Chau Thi Thu Nga was the mastermind, directing other defendants to commit the crime, and was the user and beneficiary of all the embezzled money. The nature of the case is particularly serious, with consequences of an exceptionally large amount of more than 387 billion VND.

The defendants used the embezzled money for illegal purposes such as running projects, buying cars, etc., causing public outrage. Therefore, it is necessary to apply strict punishment to the defendants to serve as a general deterrent.

6. Associate Professor Van Nhu Cuong passed away

Associate Professor, Dr. Van Nhu Cuong is a former lecturer at Hanoi National University of Education. He is the author and compiler of high school textbooks and university curriculum for geometry, and a member of the National Education Council of Vietnam.

In 1989, he was the founder and Principal of Luong The Vinh High School - Hanoi, one of the first private high schools in Hanoi.

7. Floods cause severe damage in the Northern and Central provinces

Nearly 200 houses collapsed, over 30,000 houses were flooded, nearly 2,000 houses had to be urgently evacuated; over 50,000 hectares of rice and crops were flooded and damaged, mainly concentrated in the provinces of Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa.
