(Baonghean.vn) - On October 28, the South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS) said that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un had lost about 20 kg (previously he weighed 140 kg), but did not appear to have any health problems.

In an interview, Kim Byung-kee, a lawmaker from the ruling Democratic Party, said the information was presented by the NIS during a closed session of the National Assembly, refuting rumors that North Korea was using a “body double” for leader Kim when he appeared in public recently. The NIS’s assessment was made after a detailed study of the North Korean leader’s health using artificial intelligence and other scientific methods.

The health of the North Korean leader is a frequent topic of discussion due to the political implications of his inability to carry out his duties. There is currently no known successor if Kim Jong-un is unable to take over.

According to the NIS, Kim has carried out public activities for 71 days this year, 45 percent more than the same period last year. He has also removed portraits of his father and grandfather, former leaders Kim Jong-il and Kim Il-sung, from the backdrop at official meetings, signaling a departure from the shadow of his predecessors. Internally, the term “Kim Jong-unism” is being used.

The North Korean leader's younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, has carried out 34 public activities this year, double the number last year, while overseeing North Korea's relations with South Korea and the United States, and making undisclosed trips to provinces to check on people's livelihoods and report her findings to her supervisor.

The NIS added that it had detected signs that a 5-megawatt nuclear reactor at North Korea's Yongbyon complex had recently been reactivated, with its reprocessing facilities apparently operating for seven months since February. The NIS believes that North Korea may have reprocessed spent nuclear fuel rods during this period to harvest weapons-grade plutonium and enhance its nuclear capabilities, thus highlighting the strategic value of the Yongbyon complex.

The new hypersonic missile launch last month was the first test of the weapon, meaning it will require additional testing./.
