On the morning of January 11, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee held a press conference to announce the socio-economic development situation in 2020.

MANY POSITIVE RESULTS

2020 is a year of special significance, with many important events taking place in the province and the country. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a strong, comprehensive and profound impact on all aspects of economic and social life. In addition, extreme weather, natural disasters... have caused severe damage, negatively affecting production and life in the province.

In that context, with the determination and great efforts of the entire political system, the people and the business community, focusing on implementing the "dual goal": both resolutely preventing and fighting the epidemic and focusing on recovering and developing the socio-economy. The province's socio-economic situation in 2020 achieved important results.

The province's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) is estimated to increase by 4.45%, ranking 19th out of 63 localities, while the country's GDP only increased by 2.91%. Total state budget revenue reached VND 17,363 billion, up 14.11% compared to the beginning of the year estimate and up 11.6% compared to the adjusted estimate, up 7.3% compared to 2019. Budget expenditure reached VND 29,688 billion, reaching 109.4% of the estimate and reaching 108.1% of the adjusted estimate.

The agriculture, forestry and fishery sector grew by 4.99%, demonstrating its role as a "support" for the economy in difficult times. By the end of 2020, 280/411 communes had met new rural standards, accounting for 68.12% of the total number of communes; 2 communes had met advanced new rural standards; it is expected that 6 district-level units will complete the task of building and meeting new rural standards...

The growth rate of the industry reached 4.44%. The total number of tourists reached 3.52 million, equal to 53% of the same period. The total social investment capital is estimated at 78,847 billion VND, an increase of 12.35% compared to 2019. The disbursement rate of public investment capital is quite good (as of December 31, 2020, the provincial budget managed by the province has disbursed 83.8% of the assigned plan).

Foreign affairs activities continued to achieve many positive results. The investment and business environment was focused on improving. As of December 31, 2020, the province had granted new licenses to 84 projects with a total registered capital of VND 8,388.78 billion; adjusted 103 projects, of which the total investment capital of 35 projects was adjusted (an increase of VND 8,984.2 billion).

The cultural and social fields continue to receive attention and direction; the poverty rate by the end of 2020 is estimated to be about 3%. Comprehensive education quality continues to be cared for and affirmed; the rate of national standard schools reaches 72.66%. National defense, security, order and social safety are ensured.

Entering 2021, Nghe An set a target of 7.5% - 8.5% growth rate of gross domestic product (GRDP); 14,032.3 billion VND in budget revenue; 1.2 billion USD in export turnover; 88,000 billion VND in total social development investment; 48-49 million VND in GRDP per capita; 20 more communes meeting new rural standards; 0.5-0.7% reduction in poverty rate...

To achieve the above targets, the Provincial People's Committee has set out 12 main tasks and solutions. In particular, focusing on directing the implementation of the Resolution of the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2020-2025 term, the 5-year socio-economic development plan for the 2021-2025 period; Continuing to effectively implement measures to prevent and minimize damage from the Covid-19 pandemic. Focusing on removing difficulties in production and business, promoting investment, and ensuring social security.

At the press conference, journalists and reporters raised many questions, surrounding issues of socio-economic development indicators for the 2020 - 2025 term, such as: Why is the area of ​​passion fruit cultivation in the Western districts decreasing sharply; Is the handling of officials who violated the project to support the socio-economic development of the O Du ethnic group letting any subjects escape or being lenient? What are the results of handling violations at Vinh City Central Park?

Concluding the press conference, Comrade Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that to achieve important results in socio-economic development in 2020, there were positive and effective contributions from press agencies, journalists and reporters in the area. The activities of press agencies have closely followed the leadership and direction of the Party and State and many issues reflected by the press have helped the province, departments and branches to handle and resolve effectively.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that 2021 will be the year of many important events for the country, the first year of implementing the 5-year socio-economic development plan for the period 2021-2025. Especially, it is the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 19th Provincial Party Congress with many key tasks and solutions. In particular, focusing on improving the business environment, administrative reform, promoting investment attraction, creating momentum to promote socio-economic development of the province.
