Nghe An province launches a campaign to mobilize the entire population for irrigation work.
(Baonghean)This morning, October 12th, in Quynh Bang commune (Quynh Luu district), the People's Committee of Nghe An province organized a ceremony to launch a campaign for all citizens to participate in irrigation work. Mr. Dinh Viet Hong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, attended and spoke at the ceremony.
Through 10 campaigns mobilizing the entire population to participate in irrigation work, Nghe An province has achieved significant and practical results in serving agricultural production and aquaculture. In 2010 alone (over 45 days, from October 16th to November 30th), the entire province mobilized nearly 2.6 million man-days, dredged 668,000 m³ of canals and ditches, and excavated and repaired 1,711,000 m³ of canals and ditches. The estimated cost of implementation was nearly 76 billion VND.

Comrade Dinh Viet Hong beat the drum to launch the nationwide campaign for irrigation work.
Following the launching ceremony, farmers in Quynh Bang proceeded to dredge the canals and ditches.
This year, the early onset of heavy rains and floods has inundated crops and damaged many irrigation and transportation infrastructure projects, significantly impacting production. Therefore, the goal of this campaign is to focus on repairing and dredging irrigation canals and clean water facilities that have been silted up or damaged; constructing rural transportation infrastructure in conjunction with the new rural development program; and improving irrigation systems to support aquaculture and agricultural restructuring.
Immediately after the launching ceremony, hundreds of people in Quynh Bang gathered to dredge Canal 773 - an important canal responsible for draining floodwaters from the commune's cultivated areas.
