95 years ago, under the leadership of the Central Region Party Committee, Vinh - Ben Thuy Provincial Committee and Nghe An Provincial Committee, the revolutionary movement against colonial and feudal oppression took place strongly.
The peak of the movement was the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement of 1930-1931, a brilliant milestone in the history of the Vietnamese revolution in the 20th century, becoming a symbol of heroism, loyalty, and indomitability of the people of Nghe An.

One of the typical events was the demonstration on September 12, 1930 in Hung Nguyen and Nam Dan (old). About 8,000 farmers in neat ranks, carrying red flags, hammers and sickles, sticks, spears, and ropes marched to Yen Xuan station to denounce the crimes of French colonialism and the feudalism of the Southern Dynasty, calling on the masses to follow the Party.
When the group reached Thai Lao village, the French colonialists bombed the village, killing 217 people and injuring 125. This brutal terrorist attack shocked public opinion domestically and internationally.

Despite the bloody suppression, the demonstration still went down in history as an immortal epic, a testament to the people's power to rise up. September 12th has been chosen as the anniversary of the Nghe Tinh Soviet, becoming an occasion for later generations to remember and pay tribute to the martyrs who died for national independence.

During the 1930-1931 climax, the colonial-feudal government brutally suppressed the revolutionary movement, trying to suppress it. By 1932, in Nghe An alone, 6,681 people were imprisoned and about 1,500 people were killed.
Many revolutionary soldiers were detained at Vinh Prison - one of the most important prisons established by the French colonialists in Indochina, after Hoa Lo (Hanoi), Kham Lon (Saigon) and Thua Phu (Hue).

Existing for 140 years (1804-1945), Vinh Prison is not only a testament to colonial and feudal crimes but also a symbol of steadfastness and indomitability of generations of revolutionary soldiers. Over time and historical changes, on the site of the old Vinh Prison, in the premises of the Nghe An - Soviet Nghe Tinh Museum, a memorial area has been built and preserved many documents, artifacts, and touching stories about political prisoners, becoming a red address for traditional education for today's and future generations.

In a sacred and respectful atmosphere, at the Memorial House of the Soviet Martyrs of Nghe Tinh - a project completed on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the movement (September 12, 1930 - September 12, 2005), where the altar of the martyrs is located and around it are stone steles engraved with the names of nearly 2,000 martyrs from Nghe An and Ha Tinh, the delegates offered flowers, incense and silently commemorated the great contributions of those who fell during the Soviet movement of Nghe Tinh as well as at Vinh Prison.

Next, at the Memorial, which stands out with the words “Indomitable / Eternal glory” representing the steadfast spirit of the communists, along with a relief depicting the indomitable struggle of revolutionary soldiers and patriotic people in Vinh Prison, delegates held a candle-lighting ceremony to pay tribute, commemorate and pray for the heroic martyrs.

The memorial service and requiem for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives at Vinh Prison and during the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement is an opportunity to respectfully pay tribute to the outstanding sons of the homeland, and at the same time remind the present and future generations to continue to preserve and promote the indomitable spirit of the Nghe Tinh Soviet - the sacred flame that has illuminated and encouraged our Party and People to overcome countless difficulties, gain national independence, unify the country, and firmly follow the path to socialism.

Although nearly a century has passed, the historical value, revolutionary significance and heroic spirit of the Nghe Tinh Soviets remain intact. The children who sacrificed for the Fatherland will forever be immortal, becoming the driving force for the homeland and country to firmly step on the path of development.
