The vanguard spirit of the heroic Red City youth

(Baonghean) - Vinh City has a large youth force with more than 30,000 youth union members. During the 2012 - 2017 term, with the efforts to overcome difficulties, solidarity, creativity, initiative, and volunteerism of the youth union cadres and members, along with the care and attention of Party committees at all levels, authorities, departments, branches, organizations and the whole society; the activities of the Youth Union and the youth and children's movement in the city have achieved proud results.

The propaganda and education work has always been carried out by the Youth Union at all levels from the city to the grassroots in the direction of innovating the content, diversifying the organization, focusing on the depth and quality of activities and being suitable for each group of young people. In particular, implementing the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style and strengthening the education of revolutionary ideals, morality and cultural lifestyle for young people are the core and consistent content in the education work of the Youth Union.

The Youth Union at all levels has implemented many effective learning models such as: Building 72 bookcases "Studying and following Uncle Ho's teachings"; 135 Youth Union branches wrote "Diaries of following Uncle Ho's teachings"; 95 Youth Union members were commended as typical examples of studying and following Uncle Ho's teachings at the grassroots level, 125 Youth Union members were commended at the city level, 03 Youth Union members were commended at the provincial level and 01 Youth Union member was commended at the central level...

The two movements “Spurring socio-economic development and national defense” and “Accompanying young people in establishing careers” launched by the Central Youth Union were implemented synchronously and effectively with many diverse and widespread programs and activities, attracting a large number of youth union members to participate. The movement “Youth building urban civilization” continued to be promoted through the organization of “Volunteer Saturday” and “Green Sunday”.

The City Youth Union has organized 200 environmental sanitation campaigns on roads, agencies, and schools; removed illegal advertising and classified ads; collected waste; ... built models of "Civilized routes", "Self-managed youth routes", "Building public restroom models" (maintaining the civilized route model on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, putting into operation 3 public restrooms, and installing signs on 112 self-managed youth routes.) ... The Youth Union chapters at all levels have undertaken and implemented 5 city-level youth projects (worth 410 million VND) and 213 grassroots-level youth projects and tasks.

Volunteer activities ensure widespread, oriented, creative, practical and effective: Organizing 5 trips to give warm winter and spring gifts in mountainous districts: Tuong Duong, Ky Son, Anh Son, Quy Chau, Que Phong, donating 15,000 warm coats, 50,000 notebooks, 2,000 sets of textbooks, 6,000 school supplies of all kinds and more than 100 million VND in cash; establishing 100 youth volunteer teams "Supporting exam season" "Supporting school" to help nearly 30,000 candidates and their families; maintaining the City Young Doctors Club with 273 members, organizing 16 medical examinations and providing free medicine to more than 5,000 people with a total cost of nearly 1 billion VND; mobilizing 2,700 units of blood donation; mobilized social resources to distribute 13,800 free meals to poor patients with a total value of 276 million VND; gave 550 gifts to policy beneficiaries, families of war invalids and martyrs, and those with revolutionary contributions with a total value of 275 million VND.

In the movement "Shove to protect the Fatherland, maintain political security, social order and safety", the city's youth contributed 100 million VND to the border island charity fund, exceeding the target assigned by the province; donated 1,000 national flags to give to soldiers.

Every year, the delegation visits and presents gifts to border guards at Station 523 of Tuong Duong district with a total value of 30 million VND; during the term, more than 750 young union members undergo military service examination and enlistment, giving 300 gifts to young people who leave and return after completing their service with a total value of 90 million VND; organizing 5 cultural and sports exchanges for 1,000 young union members of the city with students undergoing drug rehabilitation at the City Social Labor Education Center on the occasion of World Drug Prevention Day, June 26, and building a legal education bookshelf with more than 1,000 books to donate to the center; helping 65 young people reintegrate into the community.

The movement "Accompanying young people in establishing their careers", the whole city has mobilized and awarded more than 3,000 scholarships of all kinds with a total value of more than 2 billion VND; organized 65 communication, counseling, career orientation and job placement sessions for 10,000 youth union members and students, introduced jobs to more than 1,100 young people. Organized 20 city-level festivals, performances, and art exchanges, 150 grassroots-level festivals, performances, and art exchanges; organized 10 city-level sports competitions, 125 grassroots-level sports competitions.

In the work of consolidating and building the Youth Union organization, expanding the solidarity front to gather young people; actively participating in building the Party, government and people's organizations, the whole city has introduced 13,447 comrades to study and sympathize, admitted 12,240 new Union members; organized 161 training classes on skills, professional work, and transferred science and technology to Youth Union members; introduced to the Party to monitor, nurture and admit 1,779 outstanding Union members into the Party's ranks.

The work of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Team and the care and education of teenagers, children and youth in the city has regularly supported 225 students in difficult circumstances. In 5 years, the teams in the city have awarded scholarships and gifts worth nearly 3 billion VND, the City Team Council awarded 75 savings books to 75 students in difficult circumstances on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Team worth 150 million VND, and awarded more than 350 flocks of Red Scarf chickens to team members in difficult circumstances.

With the results achieved, Vinh City Youth Union has been evaluated by the Provincial Youth Union for 5 consecutive years as an outstanding unit in the Youth Union work and the youth movement in the whole province, twice awarded the emulation flag by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, 5 times awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Central Youth Union, and awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister. In 2015, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam awarded the Third Class Labor Medal for outstanding achievements in work, contributing to building socialism and defending the Fatherland.

Entering the new term (2017 - 2022), Vinh city's youth continue to unite and strive to build a comprehensively developed and politically strong Youth Union organization, fostering a generation of young people who love their homeland and country, have socialist ideals, are aware of law enforcement, discipline, have knowledge, health, social skills, professional capacity, live a cultured and loyal life; improve the quality of movements, expand the solidarity front to gather young people, strengthen care and protect the legitimate interests of children and teenagers; promote potential and create an environment for young people to innovate economic thinking, encourage young people to start businesses. Mobilize cadres and young union members to take the lead in administrative reform, law practice, and international integration; undertake large-scale youth projects to serve the task of economic and social development of the city.

With the slogan of action: "Youth Solidarity - Creativity - Agility - Integration, contributing to building a civilized, modern and affectionate Vinh city", the Congress expressed the will and aspirations of union members, bringing their talents, youth and intelligence to protect and build the homeland, contributing together with the Party and people to build Vinh city to develop rapidly and sustainably; soon becoming the economic and cultural center of the North Central region.
