Emotional teacher-student relationship and friendship after a big explosion seriously injured a male student

Pham Thanh Son, 21 years old, residing in Xuan Phuc hamlet, Nghi Xuan commune, Nghi Loc district (Nghe An), a student at Vinh University of Technical Education, was seriously injured in an explosion at his home on January 5.

Previously, Son was a former student of Nghi Loc 3 High School (Nghi Loc District, Nghe An). Son was a good student, studied well and was loved by many teachers and friends.

After the unfortunate explosion, Son was taken to the Le Huu Trac National Burn Institute for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, Son was transferred to the Field Surgery Department of the 103 Military Hospital in Hanoi for further intensive treatment.

Hearing that Son was seriously injured by teacher Ngo Sy Hoang, his friends were extremely worried. Teacher Hoang was Son's former homeroom teacher for all 3 years of high school. The day after the unfortunate accident, teacher Ngo Sy Hoang went to Hanoi to visit his former student. Because Son's parents were old and weak and could not take care of their son, currently his 3 uncles (Son's mother's younger brothers) and teacher Hoang, along with his close friend Phan Van Quyet in hamlet 2, Phuc Tho commune, Nghi Loc district (Nghe An) directly cared for and looked after Son.

The person seriously injured in the house explosion was a poor student.

Teacher Ngo Sy Hoang shared: “Son’s current condition is very pitiful. Son suffered third-degree burns all over his body from face to feet. His left hand had its index finger and thumb completely amputated. His right hand was severely burned and it is unlikely he will be able to save it. Son can only mumble when he needs to answer someone, and it is very difficult to open his eyes…”

Sympathizing with the pitiful situation of his former good student, teacher Hoang called for the cooperation of teachers at the school where Son used to study, former students and his friends to help Son.

Mr. Hoang said that so far, he and Son's teachers and friends have raised more than 30 million VND to support Son. A small amount of money was sent to Son's parents to temporarily repair the roof so they could have a place to sleep. The rest, he sent to Hanoi to pay for Son's medicine and hospital fees.

Mr. Hoang said: “Every day, the amount of money that Son has to spend on medicine is about 7 million VND. Son does not have health insurance, so things are getting more and more difficult. I really hope to receive kind hearts from many people to help Son in the near future when he is no longer able to take care of himself, because his situation is really pitiful.”

Currently, Mr. Ngo Sy Hoang is the Head of the Physics Department at Nghi Loc 3 High School, where Son used to study.
