The problem of encroachment on road corridors in Nam Dan.

(Baonghean)Recently, at important traffic junctions, especially in the central market area and intersections along National Highway 46 running through Nam Dan district, the situation of people encroaching on traffic safety corridors for trading purposes, hindering traffic flow, has become increasingly common.

The Sa Nam market area, located right next to the intersection bordering Nam Dan town and Van Dien commune, is considered a "hot spot" due to the blatant practice of vendors setting up stalls on the road and sidewalks. Especially during the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), the buying and selling activity is even more bustling, obstructing traffic and causing frequent collisions and accidents. Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, a road user, said: "I see people encroaching on the road and sidewalks to obstruct traffic, affecting people like us when we travel on the road. I hope that the authorities will soon find a solution to put an end to this situation."

Besides the phenomenon of people selling small items spilling onto the road, the re-encroachment on sidewalks, such as hanging advertising signs, erecting awnings and temporary tents for business, which obstructs visibility, also significantly affects traffic flow on this road.

Although relevant authorities and the town police have recently intensified efforts to disseminate traffic safety laws, review, compile statistics, and handle cases of deliberate violations, and increase patrols during peak hours, the situation reverts to its previous state once the authorities turn away. Regarding this issue, Mr. Bui Huu Dong, Head of the Nam Dan Town Police, said: "Since the beginning of the year, the town police have intensified inspections and dealt with violators, especially those deliberately encroaching on the road corridor for business purposes. We have also organized awareness campaigns, collected signs, removed awnings obstructing visibility, and taken action to deter and educate people against encroaching on the traffic safety corridor. However, this only provides temporary relief. In the coming period, especially leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), we will resolutely launch a campaign to eliminate this situation and restore clear roads and sidewalks."

In my opinion, to thoroughly address the encroachment and traffic safety violations in this area, the Nam Dan Town government and relevant agencies need to coordinate actively and regularly with more comprehensive and decisive solutions. In particular, it is crucial to help people improve their understanding of traffic laws and gradually cultivate a "traffic culture" among everyone. Only then can we hope to restore order and discipline in traffic safety and return clear roads and sidewalks.
