The world's first telescope and space sounder combination is capable of providing the clearest image yet of a black hole in the Milky Way.

South African scientists have presented sharp images obtained from the MeerKAT complex including the center of the black hole onMilky Way, 250,000 light years from Earth. These images could not be captured clearly before because they were obscured by countless space junk floating in space.
The MeerKAT complex is a combination oftelescopes and cosmic sound wave detectors. It allows scientists to not only see but also hear what is happening in the universe at the same time, a concept previously only found in works of science fiction.
When fully operational in 2020, the project will be equipped with 3,000 more space-based sounding dishes located in several countries to help scientists expand their coverage in space.
