"The court approved the investigator's request to take arrest measures against nine defendants who murdered pilot Oleg Peshkov. All of them are on the international wanted list.
The decision to arrest him in absentia was only challenged by Abdullah Mohammed Jalal's lawyer. However, the Moscow City Court upheld the verdict.
Oleg Peshkov was the commander of the Su-24, which was shot down in November 2015 by a Turkish F-16 over Syria. Peshkov managed to eject, but the attackers shot him from the ground. The navigator, Konstantin Murakhtin, was rescued by Russian infantry with the help of Syrian special forces. Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Peshkov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Russia.
