The Kieler Nachrichten newspaper ofGermany recently revealed that four of its Type-212 submarines are in dry dock for overhaul, while two others are awaiting upgrades. This means that the entire fleet of six submarines of the German Navy is no longer ready to go to sea when ordered.SputnikOctober 22 news.

"This is very bad. We had hoped for a higher level of combat readiness, but the complex technology makes maintenance and upgrades extremely difficult and time-consuming," said German Defense Ministry spokesman Jens Flosdorff.

The German submarine fleet consists of six Type-212 class submarines, launched between 2002 and 2015, using an extremely advanced design jointly developed by Germany and Italy. The Type-212 is equipped with a diesel engine and an air-independent propulsion (AIP) system, allowing the submarine to travel at high speeds using diesel engines, or operate at extremely low noise levels for three weeks using the AIP system without surfacing.
