North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will pay an official friendship visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong on March 1 and 2. Before that, he will attend the US-North Korea Summit, which will take place on February 27 and 28 in Hanoi.
On the afternoon of March 1, the official welcoming ceremony for North Korean President Kim Jong-un was solemnly held according to the highest protocol reserved for heads of state. General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong presided over the welcoming ceremony.
Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong and DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un held talks at the Presidential Palace.
On the same afternoon, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with the President of North Korea at the Government headquarters; then National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan also met with Mr. Kim Jong-un.
Kim Jong-un became the leader of North Korea in late 2011, following the death of his father, President Kim Jong-il. Kim's grandfather, Kim Il-sung, led the Democratic People's Republic of Korea from its founding in 1948 until his death in 1994.
