(Baonghean.vn) - Prolonged heavy rain has severely affected many localities from the plains to the mountains in Nghe An. Up to this point, some places have not yet overcome the consequences, so many schools have not been able to welcome students back to school.

Nam Dan district is one of the localities affected byfloods, causing students across the district to have to stay home from school for several days. As of this morning (October 3), most schools have reopened to welcome students back; however, schools in the 5 South region are still facing many difficulties.

Discussing this, Mr. Le Trung Son - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Nam Dan district said: We have a policy to clean up schools as the water recedes. However, in the 5 South region, most of the schools are flooded and the terrain is fragmented. In particular, this year the water recedes very slowly, so the flooding may last longer and it is not known when students will be able to return to school.

In Quynh Luu district, as of this morning, October 3, some kindergartens in Quynh Hong, Quynh Hung and Quynh Giang communes still temporarily closed their students because the schools were flooded, affecting the safety of the children.

This morning, although there is no more heavy rain in Con Cuong district, the weather is still cloudy and it is forecasted that there will be more rain. Throughout the district, students will continue to have to stay home from school.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh An - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Con Cuong district said: During the recent flood, some schools in the district had their fences broken, such as Cam Lam Primary School for Ethnic Minority Students, Chau Cam Secondary School, and Mau Duc Kindergarten. Currently, the schools have basically cleaned up their classrooms, but by yesterday afternoon, there was still heavy rain in the district, water from streams and creeks was still overflowing and many places where students could go to school were still cut off. Therefore, this morning, the district temporarily let students stay home from school to ensure safety.

Over the past two days of the weekend, Ky Son district was still the locality most severely affected by the flash flood that occurred in the early morning of October 2. Among the schools damaged, Hoa Son Kindergarten and Ta Ca Primary School located in Ta Ca commune were the most severely affected.

Mr. Phan Van Thiet - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Ky Son district said: These two schools are currently buried in tons of mud and it will certainly take some time and a lot of forces to clean up. However, because the water is still flowing rapidly, it is still isolated and cut off, so we are still having difficulty accessing the schools.

At Ky Son High School, there are currently more than 1,000 students staying in rented accommodation around the school area; the number of students in the dangerous areas is mainly concentrated in Hoa Son, Son Ha, Binh Son 1 villages (Ta Ca commune). Teacher Le Van Tao - Principal of Ky Son High School said: Currently, the school's dormitory area still has some small items, so since the beginning of the year, the students are still staying in rented accommodation. However, right after the flash flood, we discussed with the investor and used the second floor of the completed dormitory building to accommodate students in the dangerous areas. This morning, in addition to 60 students in Hoa Son village, more than 40 other students in villages in the danger zone were also helped by the authorities to reach safety. The school has arranged food, accommodation and organized cooking for the students. However, the students' situation is very difficult because all their books and clothes have been washed away and they are in dire need of help.

Of these, 41 teachers' houses were affected, with 14 houses being swept away by water, 14 houses being eroded and collapsed, and 17 houses being flooded. Many teachers such as Ms. Lo Thi Trang, Ms. Lo Thi Huong at Huoi Tu Kindergarten, Ms. La Thi Uot at Muong Tip 2 Primary School had their houses swept away by the flood and had no property left to be kept.

Since the beginning of the school year, although it has only been 1 month, schools in Ky Son district have been swept away by floods twice, causing damage to houses.
