Nghe An Newspaper respectfully presents the full text of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's New Year's greetings speech delivered during a meeting with members of the Politburo, the Secretariat, current and former leaders of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front, and veteran revolutionaries on the morning of February 6th (the 26th day of the Lunar New Year) at the Presidential Palace.

"Dear veteran revolutionaries,

Comrades!

Today, in the joyful atmosphere of welcoming the spring, commemorating the 83rd anniversary of the founding of the Party, and celebrating the achievements that the entire Party, people, and army have attained in 2012, we are pleased to hold this gathering to bid farewell to the old year of the Dragon 2012 and welcome the new spring of the Snake 2013.

On behalf of the Central Committee of the Party, the State, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front, I would like to extend my best wishes to you, and through you to your families and loved ones, on the occasion of the New Year.

Our country has just gone through 2012 – the second year of implementing the Resolution of the 11th National Congress of the Party – amidst many difficulties and challenges both domestically and internationally. However, our socio-economic situation has seen positive and correct changes. Outstanding results include maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, reducing the consumer price index; improving liquidity in the banking system; and maintaining a basically stable exchange rate. Agricultural production continues to develop steadily, industrial production shows signs of recovery, and tourism and services have seen significant growth. Economic restructuring plans and the implementation of the three strategic breakthroughs have been prioritized and are beginning to be implemented. Social security and welfare are basically ensured. The fields of health, education and training, and science and technology have made progress. National defense and security have been strengthened, and socio-political stability has been maintained. Our country's position in the international arena continues to be enhanced.

2012 also marked a significant milestone in Party building and rectification efforts, with the entire Party extensively implementing Central Resolution No. 4, "Some Urgent Issues Regarding Party Building Today," in a serious, open-minded, and constructive spirit, yielding important initial results. The democratic atmosphere within the Party and society continued to be promoted.

The achievements made amidst the difficulties and challenges of the past year are the result of the tremendous efforts of our compatriots and comrades throughout the country, a testament to the resilience, wisdom, and strength of the great national unity of Vietnam. These victories are creating the foundation and favorable conditions for our country to enter 2013 with greater enthusiasm and confidence. On this occasion, we express our sincere and profound gratitude to the veteran revolutionaries, the heroic Vietnamese mothers, the cadres, Party members, and all the people and armed forces nationwide, and to our compatriots abroad for their immense contributions to the national revolutionary cause in the past years and in 2012. We sincerely thank the countries and international organizations that have effectively cooperated and assisted Vietnam in the past year, and thank all countries, friends near and far, and the people of the world for their wholehearted support of our revolutionary cause.

In 2013, alongside the advantages and achievements already attained, the global and domestic situation is projected to remain challenging. In this context, the entire Party, people, and armed forces must leverage all potential and advantages, implement comprehensive solutions to achieve rapid and sustainable economic development, ensure social welfare, proactively integrate and enhance the effectiveness of international economic cooperation; maintain political stability and social order; ensure national defense and security; and improve the material and spiritual lives of the people. At the same time, we must strive to create significant changes, overcome limitations and weaknesses in Party building, and integrate this with the in-depth study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's moral example to build a truly clean and strong Party, continuously improve the Party's leadership capacity and fighting strength, consolidate trust within the Party and among the people, and motivate the entire Party, people, and armed forces to continue successfully implementing the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress.

We believe that with the character of a true revolutionary party, rich in experience, always closely connected to the people, with the nature of a State of the people, by the people, and for the people, with the unwavering revolutionary will, courage, intelligence, and creativity of our people, our nation will certainly overcome all difficulties and challenges, and achieve many outstanding accomplishments in the new year. The entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army must firmly maintain faith, be united in purpose, and be determined to lead the country through difficulties and challenges, and continue its steady development. May every family and every Vietnamese citizen have a new year filled with joy, happiness, and success.

With that spirit in mind, I propose that we all raise our glasses to celebrate the New Year, our country, and our Party. May the revolutionary cause of our people achieve even greater victories; may our Party grow stronger and more mature; may our country develop and prosper; and may our people enjoy greater prosperity, with joyful homes and happy lives for everyone.
