'I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass' Wins Special Prize at Hanoi International Film Festival

'I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass' by director Victor Vu won the special prize at the 4th Hanoi International Film Festival, which took place on the evening of November 5 in Hanoi.

The 4th Hanoi International Film Festival, taking place from November 1 to November 5, "named" nearly 150 films from 43 countries and territories around the world, to honor outstanding films with high artistic value, rich in humanity and creativity, and to encourage new talents of cinema. At the same time, it also promoted the spirit of friendship and cooperation between filmmakers and delegates, for the development of cinema as well as introduced outstanding works of cinema around the world.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 4th Hanoi International Film Festival held on November 5 at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace, Hanoi, Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan - Director of the Department of Cinema, Head of the Organizing Committee said that the event attracted many artists and film works from many countries around the world. This not only opened up opportunities for domestic and international filmmakers to learn and cooperate, but also contributed to enhancing and promoting the image of Vietnam to foreign countries.

After 5 days, the 4th Hanoi International Film Festival has concluded with a closing ceremony and award ceremony. The short film category has the participation of 15 cinemas around the world, including 30 works, of which the host country has 10 works. The award for "Best Feature Film" went to the Canadian film "Memories" by director: Atom Egoyan.

"Memories" tells the story of Zev - a man who searches for the Nazi who murdered his family 70 years ago. Despite the challenges and difficulties ahead, Zev is determined to complete his mission of finding the killer and demanding justice. What happens is a journey across continents with an amazing ending.

In addition, this film also brought the award for "Best Actor" to Christopher Plummer. In his career, he won an Oscar for the film Beginners (2010) and lent his voice to Pixar's blockbuster animated film Up.

The film "Memories" by director Atom Egoyan with the participation of actors Christopher Plummer, Puno Ganz, Jürgen Prochnow, Martin Landau has previously won many international awards such as: Best Screenplay Award for Benjamin August at the 2016 Canadian Film Awards; Vittorio Veneto Award for Atom Egoyan at the 2015 Venice Film Festival and Golden Lion nomination for Atom Egoyan at the 2015 Venice Film Festival, SIGNIS nomination for Atom Egoyan at the 2016 Hong Kong Film Festival...

At the award ceremony, Vietnamese cinema also surprised everyone by winning many prestigious awards. Specifically, "I see yellow flowers on the green grass" by director Victor Vu was honored with the special award (Special commendation from the jury for feature films) for its emotional content, touching the hearts of viewers.

Sharing his feelings, director Victor Vu sent his thanks to the entire film crew of "I see yellow flowers on green grass", especially writer Nguyen Nhat Anh for writing a wonderful work, imbued with the humanistic beauty of the people and country of Vietnam.

Along with that, the award for "Best Feature Film voted by the audience" once again went to the representative of Vietnam: "Winning the Lottery" by director Dustin Nguyen. "Winning the Lottery" is based on a true story in 2011, telling the story of life turned upside down in a poor countryside after a man who had just finished serving his prison term won the lottery jackpot. The film is considered a modern fairy tale, genuine, not dogmatic or fake.

The award for “Audience Choice for Most Favorite Vietnamese Film” went to “Taxi, What’s Your Name?” directed by Do Duc Thinh and Dinh Tuan Vu. The film crew’s representative, actress Thanh Thuy’s husband, said he was truly surprised that the film won the prestigious award at this year’s Hanoi International Film Festival.

Director Pham Ngoc Lan also won the award for "Best Young Short Film Director" with the work "Another City".
