Capture a gang of robbers specializing in blocking vehicles in border areas
At dawn, this gang of robbers went out to the highway to block cars, ready to shoot their victims, including women, with machetes to rob them.
On October 21, Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Van Tung, Deputy Chief of Police of Thuan An town, Binh Duong province, said that in the early morning of October 20, the reconnaissance force arrested 6 members of a gang that specialized in using machetes to commit a series of robberies of pedestrians and truck and bus drivers.
Police said that since the beginning of September, many victims have reported being attacked by a group of young men using machetes, pepper spray, and batons on National Highway 13 or Provincial Highway 43 (the border area between Thuan An Town - Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City).
This gang attacked at dawn to rob money, phones or jewelry. Thuan An town police launched a special investigation to arrest them. Detectives were sent to lie in wait along the streets where the gang often committed their crimes.

At 2:30 a.m. on October 20, detectives discovered a group of young men with suspicious behavior and characteristics similar to the victims' descriptions, so they raided the scene to check. Through the investigation and search, the police seized from this group 1 machete, 1 butcher knife, 1 cleaver, 1 sickle knife, and many other tools used to commit the crime.
The subjects confessed that in less than 1 month (from September 24 to October 18), they committed 15 robberies in Thuan An and neighboring areas such as Thu Duc district and district 12 of Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition to blocking motorbikes of passersby, this gang also blocked passenger buses and trucks on Highway 13, then smashed the windows or used machetes to threaten the drivers, forcing them to hand over money.

Answering newspaper reportersRegarding the motive for the crime, Vo Nguyen Thanh Men (20 years old, from Soc Trang) said: "My brother and I lived near the motel, and we often drank together. We were short of money so we decided to rob. Last week, three of us in the group stopped a man on a motorbike to rob him. That time, he didn't let us touch him to get the money, so I was so angry that I slashed him twice in the back."
Other members of the gang also confessed that if the victims ran away or resisted, they were ready to slash them. On October 13 alone, the group used machetes to slash and injure a woman and robbed her of 10 million VND.
Six members of this gang are currently being detained, including: Vo Nguyen Thanh Men, Nguyen Vu Kha (19 years old, from Bac Lieu), Huynh Thanh Sang (17 years old, from Ben Tre), Vo Quang Huy (17 years old, from Ca Mau), Le Thanh Van (20 years old, from Soc Trang), Nguyen Hoang Han (23 years old, from Hau Giang).
