According to Variety, The Post is the next film project of famous director Steven Spielberg. He has just recruited Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep for the two main roles of the film revolving around the publication of the Pentagon Papers in 1971 in the Washington Post.

Pentagon Papers, or full name United States - Vietnam Relations, 1945-1967: A Study Prepared by the Department of Defense, by author Daniel Ellsberg.

The research shocked public opinion in the land of the stars and stripes when it exposed the nature of the unjust war that the US government waged in Vietnam.

Washington Post editors Ben Bradlee and Kay Graham fought a long battle to get the government to allow them to publish the Pentagon Papers. Tom Hanks plays Bradlee in The Post, while Meryl Streep plays Graham.

The highly anticipated film project is being produced by Fox and Amblin Entertainment. The film is expected to be released in North America by Fox, while similar tasks in international markets will be handled by various units such as Universal, eOne and Reliance.

At the moment, director Steven Spielberg is finishing the blockbuster Ready Player One for Warner Bros., and is preparing to start making The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara with two stars Mark Rylance and Oscar Isaac. Therefore, The Post will most likely only be able to start filming at the end of 2017.

Last year, Meryl Streep received her 20th Oscar nomination for her biopic Florence Foster Jenkins (2016). Although the Academy did not give him a chance to compete, Tom Hanks was still highly appreciated for another biopic, Sully, in the fall of 2016.
