Wayne Nickerson, captain and owner of the FV Windsong in Plymouth, discovered the lobster while fishing off Cape Cod Bay on August 8. His wife, Jan Nickerson, shared a photo of the lobster on the Old Colony Memorial Facebook page, where it has been shared more than 1,700 times. "My husband was screaming with excitement when he saw the lobster," Jan told ABC News.
The 2-pound blue lobster was Wayne's second in 35 years of fishing, having first encountered one in 1990. The Lobster Institute at the University of Maine estimates that the chance of a lobster being blue is 1 in 2,000,000.
"The lobster was released into a cool water tank. It was very healthy and happy," Jan shared. Jan and his wife hope to send the lobster, named Bleu, to a local aquarium.
