Celebrating the achievements of the patriotic emulation movement during the period 2010-2015

During the two days of the 9th National Emulation Congress (December 6-7), the National Convention Center became the gathering place for the most beautiful flowers in the garden of emulation nationwide: Heroes, Emulation Fighters, exemplary advanced models, and the most outstanding individuals.

Early in the morning of December 7th, delegates to the Congress gathered at the National Convention Center, filled with a sense of honor, pride, and profound emotion. Each delegate arrived at the Congress with a new mindset, new faith, and a spirit and determination ready to embrace and successfully complete the revolutionary tasks in the new situation.

Prime Minister and Chairman of the Central Emulation and Commendation Council Nguyen Tan Dung launched the patriotic emulation movement for the period 2015-2020.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders and the Central Emulation and Commendation Council, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that, in implementing the teachings of beloved President Ho Chi Minh, "Emulation is patriotism, and patriotism requires emulation," under the leadership of the Party, many patriotic emulation movements have been launched and become revolutionary action movements of the people. These patriotic emulation movements have harnessed the combined strength of the entire nation, creating momentum to contribute to the successful achievement of goals and tasks in economic, cultural, social, environmental, national defense, security, foreign affairs, and international integration.

The Prime Minister emphasized: Imbued with the teachings of beloved President Ho Chi Minh, "By jointly promoting patriotic emulation, we can overcome any difficulties and successfully complete any task," in the context of many favorable opportunities both internationally and domestically, but also facing numerous challenges, we must further promote patriotic emulation movements, contributing to the successful achievement of the socio-economic development goals and tasks for 2016 and the five-year period 2016-2020.

The Congress heard Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan present the Report summarizing the patriotic emulation movement and commendation work over the past five years (2011-2015), and the direction and tasks for the 2016-2020 period. The report clearly outlined lessons learned and proposed solutions for effectively implementing the patriotic emulation movement in the 2016-2020 period, including: strengthening leadership and guidance on emulation and commendation; innovating the organization of patriotic emulation movements, focusing on the "Nationwide efforts to build new rural areas" emulation movement; promoting propaganda, identifying and promoting exemplary individuals; improving the quality of commendation work; and enhancing the quality of the activities of the Emulation and Commendation Council and the advisory role of specialized agencies responsible for emulation and commendation work at all levels.

In particular, delegates listened to timely and insightful guidance from General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong. The General Secretary emphasized that the patriotic emulation movement is of special importance, contributing to creating momentum for revolutionary activities. Thanks to this, it has significantly contributed to mobilizing the immense strength of the great national unity, completing the cause of national liberation and reunification, and achieving great, historically significant achievements in the process of renovation, construction, and defense of the Fatherland.

However, alongside the achievements, we must frankly acknowledge shortcomings such as the fact that while the emulation movement has developed extensively, it is not yet comprehensive, uniform, or continuous; in many places, it remains largely formalistic and not closely linked to political tasks; some movements have not had a high level of widespread impact; the preliminary and final reviews in some localities and units have not been given due importance, and the identification and replication of advanced models have been slow; and the number of direct laborers receiving awards is still insufficient... We need to seriously learn from experience and take proactive measures to overcome these limitations and shortcomings.

To ensure the emulation movement achieves greater success and spreads more exemplary models, the General Secretary pointed out:

“In the coming period, the patriotic emulation movement needs to focus on fulfilling the great task of mobilizing the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army to strive to effectively implement the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations; strengthening the building of a clean and strong Party; promoting the strength of the entire nation and socialist democracy; comprehensively and synchronously accelerating the reform process; firmly protecting the Fatherland, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; and striving to soon transform our country into a modern industrialized nation.”

Examples that inspire others

The congress heard presentations from delegates, which contained stories and lessons rich in humanistic meaning about the spirit of dedication, perseverance, effort, and refusal to give up, bringing achievements to families, collectives, agencies, and units, thereby igniting and spreading, developing into large-scale movements.

This is the story of Captain Sằn A Phật, Deputy Team Leader of the Security Team, Tiên Yên District Police, Quảng Ninh Province. A member of the Sán Chỉ ethnic group, a graduate of the People's Security Academy, and fluent in four ethnic minority languages, he returned to his hometown to work, overcoming difficulties and challenges, actively engaging with the community to implement the "four together" principle to mobilize the people in maintaining security and order in ethnic minority areas.

Captain Sằn A Phật, Deputy Head of the Security Team, Tien Yen District Police, Quang Ninh Province, shared about the process of mobilizing ethnic minority people to maintain security and order.

This is the story of Nguyen The Hoan, a young student who won two gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad, and his childhood memories of his hardworking father's loaves of bread. More than just a simple gift from his father returning from his work as a porter, it represents the silent sacrifice and love of his family, motivating Hoan to continue striving for higher and more ambitious dreams.

There is also a "legend" about the youngest female Associate Professor in Vietnam in 2005, who became the second female Professor of Mathematics after Professor Hoang Xuan Sinh in 2015: Dr. Le Thi Thanh Nhan - Vice Rector of the University of Science, Thai Nguyen University.

The abundant achievements of the 2011-2015 emulation campaign are the most vivid evidence of the combined strength of the spirit of unity and solidarity of the entire Party, army, and people, which has been highly emphasized and promoted over the past five years. The call to action for the patriotic emulation campaign for the 2016-2020 period by the Prime Minister, Chairman of the Central Emulation and Commendation Council, has become a guiding principle for the activities of ministries, departments, organizations, collectives, and individuals, based on adjustments to suit their specific circumstances.

The 9th National Congress of Patriotic Emulation was successfully held, concluding a period filled with outstanding achievements of patriotic role models, and opening a new journey - a journey of unity and spreading the aspiration of emulation in building and defending the Vietnamese Fatherland.
