General Secretary: 'Whoever has been involved in the crime should quickly wash it away'

The Party leader asked officials to stay away from material temptations and "from now on any violations will be strictly handled".

Speaking here,General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong mentioned that the Central Committee has disciplined Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee,because he has had very serious shortcomings and violations.

"The vast majority of cadres, party members and people believe that this is a disciplinary level that is both strict and humane, reasonable and convincing, and has a profound educational, warning, and general prevention effect," said the General Secretary.

Emphasizing that this is a painful lesson not only for Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, the General Secretary suggested that every Central Committee member and every cadre, party member, and civil servant need to "regularly self-reflect, self-correct, self-admonish, stay away from material temptations and ambitions, avoid making the same mistakes, get their hands dirty, and if they have already gotten their hands dirty, they should quickly voluntarily wash themselves clean."

"From now on, any case of disciplinary violation must be strictly handled from top to bottom to maintain Party discipline, to regain and strengthen the trust, love and respect of the people," the General Secretary affirmed.

The General Secretary raised the question "why has the handling of a number of cases and disciplinary action against a number of officials, including high-ranking officials, recently been so widely supported and agreed upon by officials, party members and the people?" and explained "if we do things that please the people, the people will trust us and our regime will survive, our Party will survive. On the contrary, if we do something that goes against the people's will and lose their trust, we will lose everything."

The General Secretary also said that after reviewing the Politburo's submission, the Central Executive Committee highly agreed to elect two additional members of the 12th Secretariat, Mr. Phan Dinh Trac - Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang - Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.

Previously, on October 6, the Party Central Committee disciplined Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh by removing him from the position of Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, member of the Standing Committee, member of the Da Nang City Party Committee Executive Committee for the 2015-2020 term; and removing him from the position of member of the 12th Party Central Committee Executive Committee.

According to the Central Inspection Commission, vAs the head, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh is primarily responsible for the violations and shortcomings of the Standing Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term.

Mr. Xuan Anh violated the principle of democratic centralism and the Party and State's regulations on personnel work; made decisions on a number of personnel with signs of imposition; and directly directed many specific tasks of the government.

"Mr. Xuan Anh's actions have caused distraction and affected the solidarity and unity in the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee," the Central Inspection Commission stated.

In addition, Mr. Xuan Anh also declared and used degrees that were not in accordance with regulations; was dishonest, violated the standards of Party Committee members and the Regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do.

The Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee also lacked exemplary behavior in receiving and using cars donated by businesses and using two houses owned by businesses, causing negative public opinion.
