SUMMARY OF WORK EXPERIENCE

- December 1967: Staff member of the Documentation Department of the Study Magazine (now the Communist Magazine); on December 19, 1967, he was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam.

- August 1968 - August 1973: Editor of the Communist Magazine; went on field trip to Thanh Oai district, Ha Tay province (now Hanoi); served as Secretary of the Youth Union branch of the Communist Magazine.

- September 1973 - April 1976: Postgraduate student in the Faculty of Economics and Politics at the Nguyen Ai Quoc Advanced Party School (now the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics).

- May 1976 - August 1980: Editorial staff member of the Party Building Department, Communist Magazine, Deputy Secretary of the Party Branch.

- September 1980 - August 1981: Studied Russian at the Nguyen Ai Quoc Advanced Party School.

- September 1981 - July 1983: Intern and defended my doctoral dissertation (now PhD) in Historical Sciences (specializing in Party Building) at the Soviet Academy of Social Sciences, under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

- August 1983 - August 1987: Deputy Head of the Party Building Department, Communist Magazine.

- September 1987 - February 1989: Head of the Party Building Department; Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee (July 1985 - December 1988), Secretary of the Party Committee of the Communist Magazine (December 1988 - December 1991).

- March 1989 - April 1990: Member of the Editorial Board of the Communist Magazine.

- May 1990 - July 1991: Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine.

- August 1991 - August 1996: Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine. At the Mid-term National Conference of the 7th Party Congress (January 1994), he was elected to the Central Committee of the Party. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th terms.

- August 1996 - February 1998: Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee, concurrently Head of the University Cadre Committee and directly in charge of the Hanoi City Party Committee's Propaganda Department. At the Fourth Conference of the Central Committee of the Party, Eighth Term (December 1997), he was elected to the Politburo. He was a member of the Politburo for the Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth, and Thirteenth terms.

- February 1998 - January 2000: In charge of the Party's ideological, cultural, and scientific and educational work.

- March 1998 - November 2006: Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, in charge of the Party's theoretical work (November 2001 - August 2006).

- August 1999 - April 2001: Standing Member of the Politburo, Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

- January 2000 - June 2006: Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee for the 12th, 13th, and 14th terms.

- May 2002 - July 19, 2024: Member of the National Assembly for the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th terms.

- June 2006 - July 2011: Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, 11th and 12th terms; Secretary of the National Assembly Party Committee; Member of the National Defense and Security Council.

- January 2011 - July 19, 2024: General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the 11th, 12th, and 13th terms, Secretary of the Central Military Commission.

- February 2013 - July 19, 2024: Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption and Negative Phenomena.

- August 2016 - July 19, 2024: Participated in the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Central Public Security Ministry for the terms 2015-2020 and 2020-2025.

- October 2018 - April 2021: General Secretary and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2016-2021 term; Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council.

- April 2021 - July 19, 2024: General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Party Committee of the Ministry of Public Security, Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption and Negative Phenomena.

- February 2, 2023: Comrade was awarded the 55-year Party membership badge.

- July 18, 2024: Comrade was awarded the Gold Star Order.

- July 19, 2024: Comrade passed away.
