SUMMARY OF WORK EXPERIENCE
- December 1967: Staff of the Documentation Department of Study Magazine (now Communist Magazine); on December 19, 1967, he was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam.
- August 1968 - August 1973: Editor of Communist Magazine; field trip to Thanh Oai district, Ha Tay province (now Hanoi); Secretary of the Communist Magazine Agency's Youth Union.
- 9/1973 - 4/1976: Postgraduate student of Economics - Politics at Nguyen Ai Quoc High-level Party School (now Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics).
- 5/1976 - 8/1980: Editor of Party Building Department, Communist Magazine, Deputy Secretary of Party Cell.
- 9/1980 - 8/1981: Studied Russian at Nguyen Ai Quoc High-Level Party School.
- 9/1981 - 7/1983: Intern and defended the thesis of Associate Professor (now Doctor) in Historical Sciences (majoring in Party Building) at the Academy of Social Sciences of the Soviet Union, under the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
- August 1983 - August 1987: Deputy Head of Party Building Department, Communist Magazine.
- 9/1987 - 2/1989: Head of Party Building Committee; Deputy Secretary of Party Committee (7/1985 - 12/1988), Secretary of Party Committee of Communist Magazine (12/1988 - 12/1991).
- 3/1989 - 4/1990: Member of the Editorial Board of Communist Magazine.
- 5/1990 - 7/1991: Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Communist Magazine.
- August 1991 - August 1996: Editor-in-Chief of Communist Magazine. At the mid-term National Delegates Conference of the 7th Party Congress (January 1994), he was elected to the Party Central Committee. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th terms.
- August 1996 - February 1998: Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, concurrently Head of the University Personnel Committee and directly in charge of the Hanoi Party Committee's Propaganda Department. At the 4th Conference of the Party Central Committee, 8th tenure (December 1997), he was elected to the Politburo. He was a member of the Politburo of the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th tenures.
- 2/1998 - 1/2000: In charge of the Party's Ideology - Culture and Science work.
- 3/1998 - 11/2006: Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, in charge of the Party's theoretical work (11/2001 - 8/2006).
- August 1999 - April 2001: Standing member of the Politburo, Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
- 1/2000 - 6/2006: Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee, terms XII, XIII, XIV.
- 5/2002 - 7/19/2024: National Assembly Delegate, terms XI, XII, XIII, XIV, XV.
- June 2006 - July 2011: Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, 11th and 12th terms, Secretary of the National Assembly Party Delegation, Member of the National Defense and Security Council.
