According to the special correspondent of VNA, right after the official welcoming ceremony, at the Royal Palace in the capital Phnom Penh, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni.

King Norodom Sihamoni warmly welcomed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on their state visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia; affirming that this visit by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a particularly important historical milestone in the good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, taking place right on the occasion of the two countries solemnly organizing many activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his joy in returning to visit the beautiful and hospitable brotherly country of Cambodia after more than five years since his official friendly visit in December 2011, and meeting King Norodom Sihamoni, a close and intimate friend of the Vietnamese leaders and people.

The General Secretary sincerely thanked the King for the warm and thoughtful reception he gave the General Secretary and the delegation, deeply demonstrating the solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two peoples and countries.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and King Norodom Sihamoni informed each other about the situation in each country. King Norodom Sihamoni congratulated Vietnam on the great and historic achievements in the national renewal process over the past 30 years; highly appreciated the efforts and great achievements that the Party, Government and people of Vietnam have made since the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam; and wished the Vietnamese people to gain many new and greater achievements, and soon successfully carry out the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his joy at the great and proud achievements that the Cambodian people have achieved in recent years, under the wise reign of the King, the wise leadership of the Senate, the National Assembly and the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia; and congratulated Cambodia on successfully organizing the election of the 4th term Commune and Ward Councils, creating a foundation for maintaining political stability and protecting the peaceful and developing environment of Cambodia.

The General Secretary wished the Cambodian people to continue to gain many new and greater achievements in the cause of national construction and protection, contributing to the successful building of a Cambodia of peace, national harmony, cooperation and development.

The two leaders looked back at the development of bilateral relations over the past 50 years, highly appreciated the significance of the establishment of diplomatic relations on June 24, 1967, and agreed that the special neighborly friendship and solidarity, which was diligently cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh, King Norodom Sihamoni, and generations of leaders and people of the two countries, has overcome challenges and achieved comprehensive, great, and important results.

King Norodom Sihamoni expressed his deep gratitude for the valuable support and assistance that the great friend Vietnam has given to the country and people of Cambodia in the struggle for national liberation, overthrowing the genocidal regime, as well as in the period of national restoration and development.

The King affirmed that the Vietnamese people are great and trustworthy friends of the Cambodian people; the Cambodian people will always be good neighbors, always standing side by side with the Vietnamese people; and the King will continue the noble cause of His Majesty the Supreme King Norodom Sihanouk in cultivating the great solidarity, pure friendship and good neighborly cooperation, forever lasting Cambodia-Vietnam.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that Vietnam's development cannot be separated from the support and assistance of international friends, especially the support and assistance of neighboring countries and the region, including the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The Party, State and people of Vietnam sincerely thank the great and wholehearted assistance that the late King Norodom Sihanouk, Queen Mother Norodom Moninieth Sihanouk, King Norodom Sihamoni, generations of leaders and people of Cambodia have given to Vietnam up to now.

The two leaders affirmed that they will consistently do their utmost to preserve, promote and pass on to future generations the traditional solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia that will forever be green and sustainable.

The General Secretary wished the King good health and longevity and that in his noble position, he would continue to make greater contributions to the prosperity of the Kingdom of Cambodia and constantly foster the great friendship between the two peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong respectfully invited the King and Queen Mother to visit Vietnam in 2017 and the following years. King Norodom Sihamoni sincerely thanked him, happily accepted the invitation and said he would arrange to return to visit Vietnam soon./.
