General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong receives Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
On the afternoon of January 16, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong warmly received Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.
At the reception, the General Secretary warmly welcomed Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to return to Vietnam in the context of the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership developing very well. The General Secretary expressed his satisfaction with the strong and substantive progress in all areas of Vietnam-Japan relations in recent years on the basis of agreements reached between the two countries' senior leaders, especially the Joint Vision Statement on Vietnam-Japan relations.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe warmly congratulated General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on his re-election as General Secretary at the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam; expressed his joy at returning to visit Vietnam; and highly appreciated the positive and effective progress in cooperation between Japan and Vietnam in various fields, considering these achievements and concrete steps to realize high-level agreements between the two countries.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe informed the General Secretary of the results of his talks with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; affirmed that Japan continues to prioritize official development assistance to Vietnam, wishes to strengthen cooperation in the fields of infrastructure development and high-quality human resource training; expressed his wish to continue to strengthen cooperation and close coordination with Vietnam to contribute to maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, development and prosperity in the region and the world; expressed his firm belief that the mutual visits between the leaders of the two sides, especially the upcoming visit to Vietnam by the Japanese Emperor and Empress, will bring the Japan-Vietnam relationship to new heights.
The General Secretary welcomed the results of the talks between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of attaching importance to developing and continuously deepening the extensive strategic partnership with Japan, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world. The General Secretary suggested that the two sides continue to enhance political trust through maintaining regular exchanges and contacts at all levels, especially high-level visits between leaders of the two States, Governments and National Assemblies; and promoting exchanges between the people of the two countries.
The General Secretary highly appreciated Japan's practical and effective cooperation in Vietnam's socio-economic development over the past years, especially the importance of ODA capital that Japan has provided to Vietnam in areas such as building high-quality infrastructure, developing supporting industries, agricultural cooperation, responding to climate change and training high-quality human resources.
The General Secretary emphasized that the Vietnamese leaders and people attach great importance to the upcoming visit to Vietnam by the Japanese Emperor and Empress; affirmed that the visits of Japanese leaders to Vietnam will be new milestones in deepening the relationship between the two countries and the friendship between the people of Vietnam and Japan.
