Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendly relations with traditional friends in the Central Asian region, including Kazakhstan, and wishes to further strengthen multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

On August 21, after holding talks with President Vo Van Thuong, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing and strengthening relations with traditional friends, including Kazakhstan. In 1959, President Ho Chi Minh visited Kazakhstan, marking a good milestone in the relationship between the two countries.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong informed the President of Kazakhstan about Vietnam's great and comprehensive achievements after nearly 40 years of Doi Moi, the positive results in economic development, ensuring social security, and Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification of relations.

The General Secretary discussed with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev a number of major directions and measures to promote the bilateral relationship to a new height.

The President of Kazakhstan informed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong about the situation and the extensive reforms that Kazakhstan is carrying out to develop the economy and society, ensuring stability and development.

Kazakhstan always cherishes the good traditional friendship between the two countries and considers Vietnam a leading partner in Southeast Asia.

The President emphasized the importance of promoting relations between Kazakhstan's political parties and the Communist Party of Vietnam, considering this an important channel in bilateral relations.

Sharing the General Secretary's assessment, the President agreed with major measures to promote the two countries' relations in depth, especially in economics, trade, investment, promoting the advantages of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union of which Kazakhstan is a member, and paying attention to cultural cooperation to enhance understanding between the people and young generations of the two countries.

Meeting with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed the positive developments in the relations between the two countries, especially in politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, etc.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev affirmed that Kazakhstan considers Vietnam an important partner in Asia-Pacific and wishes to further promote the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated the two countries' effective implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in recent times, and affirmed that the two sides still have much room and potential to complement each other for mutual development.

The Prime Minister suggested that Kazakhstan continue to facilitate Vietnam's key products such as agricultural products, seafood, textiles, and wooden products to access the market.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said he would direct the Government of Kazakhstan to focus on promoting cooperation in the areas mentioned by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, focusing on cooperation in potential areas such as transportation, logistics, culture, tourism, finance, digital transformation, etc.

The President hopes to work with Vietnam to further promote the role of the two countries' Intergovernmental Committee on economics, trade, science and technology as well as coordinate the implementation of specific cooperation projects.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his hope that the signing of the bilateral visa exemption agreement for ordinary passport holders and the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of tourism will open up more opportunities for people-to-people exchanges, promote tourism and trade exchanges.

Warmly welcoming President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said the visit is an important step forward, strongly promoting the traditional relationship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

The President of Kazakhstan is a leader with extensive experience in parliamentary activities, and cooperation between the Parliament of Kazakhstan and the National Assembly of Vietnam will be a valuable foundation for further developing relations between the National Assemblies/Parliaments of the two countries.

In the changing international context, the traditional solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Kazakhstan are becoming more and more important. The President thanked Vietnam for its support when attending the 6th Summit on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Kazakhstan.

Sharing about the economic reform goals in the coming time, the President hopes to continue to have connections and share experiences between the two countries in general and the two countries' legislative bodies in particular.

Appreciating the role of the Vietnamese National Assembly, and having himself held the position of Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev hopes that the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Parliament of Kazakhstan will strengthen cooperation and exchange operational experiences.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that the Vietnamese National Assembly supports and welcomes the results of the talks and meetings between the President of Kazakhstan, President Vo Van Thuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The National Assembly Chairman believes that the documents signed by the two sides are a favorable legal framework, promoting the traditional friendly cooperation between the two countries more comprehensively, effectively and substantially.

The National Assembly Chairman invited the Chairman of the Senate and the Chairman of the House of Representatives of Kazakhstan to officially visit Vietnam and send a delegation of parliamentarians to attend the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians to be held in Hanoi.

The National Assembly Chairman was pleased to announce that parliamentary cooperation between the two countries has achieved many good results in recent times, leading to the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement between the two legislative bodies.

* On the evening of August 21, at the International Convention Center, Hanoi, President Vo Van Thuong hosted a solemn reception to welcome President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on an official visit to Vietnam.

Speaking at the reception, President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that the two countries are proud of the solidarity, friendship, closeness, and bilateral cooperation that has been constantly nurtured, strengthened, and developed.

The two sides will work together to foster this friendship to further develop and be sustainable, for the prosperity of each country, for the benefit and happiness of the people of the two countries.

The President of Kazakhstan shared that as a student, he himself lived in the same dormitory with Vietnamese students and always had good feelings about the Vietnamese people. Believing that these feelings will help promote relations between the two countries, the President of Kazakhstan wishes to promote people-to-people exchanges, especially cultural and artistic exchanges. Kazakhstan always welcomes and creates favorable conditions for Vietnamese people to visit Kazakhstan.
