SUMMARY OF WORK EXPERIENCE

- 1925: While still a student, he participated in the struggle to demand amnesty for Phan Boi Chau.

- 1926: Led a student strike in Nam Dinh to commemorate Phan Chu Trinh, and was subsequently expelled from school.

- 1927: Joined the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association (a precursor organization of the Indochinese Communist Party)

- 1929: Participated in the movement to establish the Indochinese Communist Party in Northern Vietnam.

- 1930: Appointed to the Central Propaganda and Agitation Committee of the Indochinese Communist Party.

- Late 1930s: Arrested by the French and sentenced to 12 years in prison and exiled to Son La, released in 1936.

- 1936-1939: Member of the Northern Regional Committee, representative of the Indochinese Communist Party in the Northern Democratic Front Committee

- 1940: Editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Giai Phong" (Liberation), the organ of the Northern Regional Party Committee. At the 7th Central Committee Conference of the Indochinese Communist Party, he was elected to the Central Executive Committee and appointed Acting General Secretary of the Party.

- 1941: At the 8th Central Executive Committee Conference, he was elected General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Indochinese Communist Party; Head of the Propaganda Department, editor-in-chief of the "Liberation Flag" newspaper (the Party's central organ); Head of the Central Labor Movement Department.

- 1943: Sentenced to death in absentia by the French colonial authorities.

- March 9, 1945: Presided over the expanded meeting of the Central Standing Committee, issuing a directive on "The Japanese and French fighting each other and our actions" and advocating for a general uprising.

- August 1945: At the National Conference of the Party, he was appointed to head the National Uprising Committee.

- 1951: At the Second Party Congress, he was re-elected to the Central Committee and served as General Secretary until October 1956.

- 1953: Head of the Central Party's Land Reform Committee

- 1958: Appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Science Committee.

- July 1960: At the first session of the Second National Assembly, he was elected Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.

- September 1960: At the Third Party Congress, he was re-elected to the Central Committee and the Politburo.

- December 1976: At the 4th Party Congress, he was re-elected to the Central Committee and the Politburo.

- 1981: Elected by the National Assembly as Chairman of the State Council and Chairman of the National Defense Council of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

- March 1982: At the 5th Party Congress, he was re-elected to the Central Committee and the Politburo.

- July 14, 1986: At a special meeting of the Central Executive Committee, he was elected General Secretary of the Party, replacing Comrade Le Duan, who had passed away.

- December 1986: At the Sixth National Congress of the Party, he was honored as an Advisor to the Central Executive Committee of the Party.

- September 30, 1988: He passed away in Hanoi.
