On March 1, Middle Eastern media quoted a statement by the spokesman for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mr. Mustefa Bali, announcing that the SDF launched the final attack on the last stronghold of the Islamic State (IS) in Eastern Syria on the same day.
In a statement, Mr. Bali stated: "The campaign to eliminate the last IS stronghold has begun."
The SDF has been closing in on this IS stronghold since September last year and there are still a few hundred IS remnants entrenched in a small area.
