The President of Argentina visits Ho Chi Minh City.

On the evening of January 19th, at the Reunification Palace, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Le Hoang Quan received President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner of the Republic of Argentina, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from January 18-21 at the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Le Hoang Quan, welcomed President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and the high-level Argentine delegation to Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City; and sincerely thanked the Argentine people for their valuable support and assistance to Vietnam in the struggle for national liberation as well as in the restoration and development of the country.

The leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee expressed their confidence that following President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's visit to Vietnam, cooperation and development between the two countries will be stronger. Ho Chi Minh City is ready to create all favorable conditions for Argentinian businesses to invest and cooperate in Ho Chi Minh City.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner thanked the leaders and people of Ho Chi Minh City for the warm welcome extended to her and the high-level Argentinian delegation. The President also expressed confidence that the visit would further promote cooperation between the two countries in areas of mutual interest.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner stated that Argentina has strengths in several areas such as biotechnology, nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, healthcare, and agriculture, and that Argentina wishes to cooperate with Vietnam in these fields.

The President affirmed that Argentina would be a comprehensive partner with Ho Chi Minh City.

During the meeting, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Le Hoang Quan and President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner also discussed opportunities for cooperation between Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular with Argentina in the fields of energy, biotechnology research, investment, tourism, etc.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner agreed with the suggestion of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Le Hoang Quan, regarding Ho Chi Minh City establishing a sister city relationship with a locality in Argentina and for both sides to strengthen exchanges of business delegations to explore investment and cooperation opportunities in each other's countries.

On the same day, President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and a high-ranking Argentine delegation visited the Cu Chi Tunnels historical site.
