According to the Russian news agency TASS on July 6, in an interview with ABC (Washington time), US President Joe Biden called his performance in the debate with former President Donald Trump a "terrible incident" and said it did not reflect his overall state.
"That's a bad incident that doesn't reflect any serious overall situation," President Biden argued.
Biden added that he wasn't feeling well and even took a COVID test, as doctors were "trying to figure out what was wrong." The test came back negative, and President Biden "just had a bad cold."
At the same time, the American leader emphasized that "no one but him is to blame" for his poor performance in the debate.
Earlier, Politico reported that the president's relatives blamed his aides for the American leader's failure in the televised debate.
According to The Hill on July 2nd, President Joe Biden admitted to not performing well in the debate with Donald Trump. The White House occupant explained that jet lag caused by frequent foreign travel was the main reason for his fatigue.
President Biden apologized to donors for the debate not going well, but stressed that it was a necessary exercise to win the November election.
The US presidential election will take place on November 5th. Incumbent President Joe Biden of the Democratic Party and Donald Trump of the Republican Party have both secured the official nominations as their respective presidential candidates.
