On March 1 (Vietnam time), US President Donald Trump returned to the US after his second summit with North Korean President Kim Jong-un. He immediately announced that he would be interviewed by Fox News.
Fox News later aired the interview. Trump told Sean Hannity that the talks with Chairman Kim were fruitless and the two leaders "didn't sign anything." President Trump said that while he wanted complete denuclearization, North Korea only wanted to denuclearize certain areas and that he himself did not really want to lift sanctions on the country.
When Hannity referenced Trump's book "The Art of the Deal," he said "you always have to be prepared to walk away." He added that (a deal) might not be good for the United States and speculated that Kim shared his view. "He probably feels the same way," Trump said.
Mr Trump continued to claim a good relationship with Mr Kim and expressed optimism about the future. "He's a very different kind of guy and I can only say, look, it's not going to work out," Mr Trump said. "But I still have a feeling something is going to happen. And when it does, it's going to be good."
The US leader reiterated the achievement he had made after meeting with Mr. Kim in Singapore, which was a commitment from North Korea not to continue nuclear and missile testing. "The fact is, he's not going to test anymore. He said that recently and he said it again recently. He doesn't want to test (nuclear missiles) and he's not going to do it. That's a big thing. No missiles, nothing," President Trump said, saying he believed Chairman Kim, but would still wait and see what would happen.
“I think we had two good days, but I'm not sure we were both ready,” Trump concluded.
The interview covered President Trump's response to the allegations leveled against him by his former lawyer Michael Cohen. He also commented on the House investigation into his ties to Russia. He criticized Democrats for conducting an investigation when he was dealing with a very important job, "not just for America but for the world."
Previously, on the night of February 28 to the morning of March 1, North Korea invited reporters from many newspapers and radio stations to attend an impromptu press conference held at the Melia Hotel, where the North Korean delegation has been staying for the past time.
At a press conference, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho said that the country had proposed an indefinite halt to nuclear and long-range missile tests at the summit between leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump.
Foreign Minister Ri also said that the country had made a practical proposal during the recent summit between leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump. He affirmed that Pyongyang wanted five UN sanctions resolutions to be lifted, especially those related to the lives of North Korean people.
According to the North Korean foreign minister, Pyongyang wants sanctions to be partially lifted, not completely. Ri Yong-ho also affirmed that North Korea will not change its stance even if the US wants to promote dialogue. The diplomat also revealed that the US wants North Korea to take "one more step" beyond dismantling the Yongbyon nuclear facility.
The previous summit between the US President and the North Korean leader ended without any results. Speaking at a press conference after the second US-North Korea Summit in Hanoi on the afternoon of February 28, US President Donald Trump said that although he and leader Kim Jong-un had a good and constructive dialogue, the two could not reach an agreement due to disagreements on the issue of lifting sanctions on North Korea./.
