The press service of the US President's office said that insofar as the situation around Ukraine "continues to pose an unusual and acute threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States," the 2014 presidential decree on imposing sanctions on Russia will be extended for another year.
The White House announced the corresponding decision of US House Speaker Paul Ryan.
In 2014, Western countries imposed sanctions against Russia over the situation in Ukraine, which were subsequently extended and expanded several times. European politicians tied the issue of restrictions and sanctions to the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Moscow has repeatedly stated that Russia is not a party to the conflict in eastern Ukraine and is not a party to the above-mentioned agreements./.
