President Donald Trump is about to issue a new immigration decree

Speaking at a press conference on February 16 (US time), US President Donald Trump announced that he will issue a new executive order on immigration next week.

According to Reuters, Mr. Trump stated that this would be a “comprehensive new executive order” with the purpose of “protecting the American people.” Mr. Trump also continued to criticize the federal courts that issued rulings blocking the implementation of his January 27 immigration decree.

“We had a bad court, a bad decision,” the US President commented. The US government on February 16 requested a temporary stay of the proceedings at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order suspending refugee admission to the US for 120 days, banning refugees from Syria from entering the US indefinitely, and banning citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the US for 90 days.

However, the order has been temporarily suspended since a ruling by U.S. District Judge James Robart in Seattle. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Robart's ruling, a move that President Trump criticized as "going too far" and politically motivated.

Trump’s order, before it was blocked, threw the US immigration system into chaos due to a lack of specific guidance on how it would be implemented. Countries affected by the ban, US allies and many technology corporations have criticized the decision.

But Mr Trump argued that everything was “going smoothly”, that the order was necessary to keep America safe and that was why it was rushed into effect.

“If the administration had spent another month working on the order, it would have been perfect. The problem is we would have lost a lot of time, and probably a lot of lives because bad people would have come into our country,” Trump said.
