Egypt's interim president appointed 18 governors.
On August 13, 18 new governors and 9 deputy governors appointed by Egypt's interim President Atly Mansour were sworn into office.
This is the first reshuffle of provincial officials in Egypt since the July 3 coup that overthrew the government of former President Mohamed Morsi.
In addition to the 18 newly appointed governors, six former governors remain in office, one governor has been transferred to another locality, and two positions remain vacant in the Red Sea and Menoufiya provinces due to candidates declining the offer.

According to the Al Ahram newspaper, 11 of the 18 new governors are retired army and police generals who previously served in border provinces.
Three of these individuals were appointed to strategically important cities and provinces, including Port Said, Alexandria – a location frequently marked by violent clashes between supporters and opponents of the ousted President Morsi – and the tourist city of Luxor.
Earlier in late June, just days before his ouster following massive opposition protests, Morsi appointed 17 new governors in a move widely seen as an attempt to consolidate the power of the Islamist faction.
This controversial appointment has sparked a wave of harsh criticism and increased public discontent.
