(Baonghean.vn) - On April 11, US President Donald Trump offered to help boost the Russian economy and seek to end what he called the “arms race.” This move was seen as a sudden shift in diplomacy, less than an hour after warning Moscow to be prepared for “missiles coming” to Syria.

“Our relationship with Russia is now worse than it has ever been, at Cold War levels,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “There is no reason for this to be so bad. Russia needs us to help their economy, which we can do easily, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the Arms Race!”

Less than an hour earlier, President Trump warned Moscow to "get ready" for "missiles coming" from the US. According to Mr. Trump, the missiles the US will use will be "new and smart".

The White House chief also criticized Russia's choice to support Syrian President Bashar al Assad as well as Moscow's previous commitment to "intercept all missiles aimed at Syria".

Responding to the aggressive statement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that US "smart missiles" should target terrorists, not the Syrian government.

Observers are currently concerned that Mr. Trump will order airstrikes on important Syrian military infrastructure using Tomahawk missiles from the warship USS Donald Cook, while the ship USS Porter is also on its way to the Mediterranean./.
