In an interview with Fox News, Mr. Trump spoke of the strength of his newly warm relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, explaining why he has set aside his past criticism of China.
“What am I supposed to do now? Start a trade war with China while we’re dealing with bigger problems, like North Korea? Think about it. Xi has done a great job with North Korea. Ships of coal have been turned back, fuel has been turned back. Nobody has seen anything like that from China,” the president said.

A turning point in US-China relations appeared to have been reached after the meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida in early April.
The US President’s stance has taken a 180-degree turn from his previous position. During the election campaign, Mr. Trump repeatedly attacked Beijing as a currency manipulator, and threatened to impose tariffs of up to 45% on Chinese imports.
Asked whether he would rule out some military options against North Korea, the US leader said he did not want to reveal his plans. He said: “I hope that a peaceful solution will solve the North Korea problem, but many American leaders have talked to Kim Jong-un for a long time and nothing has changed. He has outplayed us and look what happened.”
US analysts believe that only China has enough economic and political power to restrain Pyongyang from developing nuclear-tipped missiles capable of reaching the US mainland./.
